LMASD Families
A shortened quarantine period for those who are identified as a close contact to an individual with COVID-19 was approved. The new guidelines include the following:
Those that have had a close contact with a person who lives in their household will continue with a 14-day quarantine period as families living together with a COVID-19 positive person have greater than a 50% chance of becoming infected during the 14-day incubation period. (We have seen this occur with our staff and students.)
For everyone else, quarantine ends after Day 10 of the last known exposure without testing and if no symptoms develop during daily monitoring. Family members are required to monitor their child’s symptoms through Day 14 and isolate if symptoms develop.
Due to the risk it presents to those present at school and the lack of staffing in health services, we will not be quarantining students for less than 10 days. DHS proposed a 7-day quarantine option if the test was taken on Day 6. Additionally, rapid (Antigen) tests are not reliable for a negative test result and were not recommended by the Jefferson County Health Department. By the time a PCR test result would be returned and documented by the school staff, we would be approaching the 10-day mark. Unfortunately, at this time we do not have the staff to navigate three different quarantine options.
Early Release Schedule on Fridays: The pandemic plan revisions included extending the early release schedule on Fridays through the remainder of the school year to support the virtual learning option. If you are in need of the child care option, please contact the recreation department.

Transition Grant Award
Lake Mills Area School District was one of forty-one school districts in the state awarded a Transition Readiness Grant. The $38,500 will be used to purchase a van for our transition program and will also support professional development for our special education teachers.
The Transition Readiness Grant program was established under 2017 Act 59 with a base funding of $1,500,000. This program was designed to support Wisconsin’s students with disabilities to successfully transition to competitive work and post-secondary education environments after high school.
