Weekly Coaching Communication
Make it a great day -- every day!
10-14 December 2018
Instructional Coaches' Annual Holiday Breakfast -- Friday, 14 December!
Come to the downstairs commons to accept our appreciation of all that you do, meet our newest coach, Ann Rozek, and reconnect with the coaches from the other buildings while enjoying some goodies.
Hats off to you!
Here's the past week's amazement*:
- Thank you, to the second half of teachers, for taking the time to complete the bi-annual IC survey. I have assessed the data and written a personal growth goal: The percentage of teachers who are bundling literacy standards (as a priority or a supporting) in the writing of proficiency scales and implementing SBL practices will increase from 27% to 60% as measured by IC survey of interest administered on 30 November 2019 and scored and entered by the end of December 2019.
Evidence of progress in this goal will come from conversations, proficiency scales, as well as the Capstone project for the visible learning courses. The measure, however, comes from the results on the IC bi-annual survey. This is a year-long goal, and will span from second semester of this school year into the first semester of next year, so the Spring Survey will serve as a formative measurement, with a final measurement in the winter survey of 2019.

*As always . . . my intent here is not to leave out anyone, so if you know of some great things happening in this building, please send me a text or email so I can include them -- share the greatness that people are choosing to do for our learners and for each other.
Ditch That Textbook Digital Summit -- courtesy of Melissa Grennan
I’m signed up for a GREAT free online conference for teachers in December and wanted to tell you about it.
It’s called the Ditch That Textbook Digital Summit. There are nine video presentations from awesome presenters on topics related to tech and solid teaching and learning. Get your free ticket at: DitchSummit.com.
HOW IT WORKS: New presentations are released every day from Dec. 14-22. They remain available until Dec. 31 so you can re-watch or catch up on any you’ve missed. They’re pre-recorded, so you can watch them whenever you want until Dec. 31. After that, the summit ends and the videos are unavailable to watch anymore.
FREE PD HOURS: You can get FREE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CREDITS for watching the videos. There’s a form to fill out after each presentation, and you’ll get an automatic PD certificate emailed to you.
Sign up for the digital summit at DitchSummit.com.

Last week I offered a challenge -- be thinking about what you may want to do to better your habits of mind (link to poster):
CHALLENGE: Choose one or two habits of mind in which you set a personal goal to better your own behaviors.
SUPER CHALLENGE: Share your goal(s) or set a goal with your classes in the second semester and include them in the change of their habits of mind.
The new semester starts January 14th, so begin to plan how you will handle the challenge, but you can join in on betterment anytime!
For the next several weeks, I will showcase a few challenges at a time for you to consider. The Habits of Mind cards provide an overview of the habit and 5 rounds of questions to help you and or your class think about that habit of mind.
Last week, I showcased the Clarity and Precision habit of mind, as well as, Data Through All Senses. This week, I'm sharing Posing Questions and Applying Past Knowledge, the next 2 of the 16 habits of mind:
