Sawnee Elementary
September 2022 Newsletter
A Note from Mrs. Davis
Dear Sawnee Families,
August flew by us and now we are in full swing. We are excited to welcome volunteers and visitors back into the building! If you would like to volunteer, please reach out to your child's teacher to find out different options, both inside the building and outside the building. Remember - you must enter the buildings through the front entrances in order to check in with your identification. This is for volunteering as well as any check in, check out, or tardy.
A special note for car riders in the morning: when you hear the announcement for staff to report to duty, please do not allow your child to exit your vehicle. Students need to wait on adults to get to their posts to maintain a safe environment for everyone.
September also means our PTO fundraiser, Sawnee SOARS, is this month. The students are excited to see what challenges administration will do when they reach certain monetary amounts. Stay tuned to social media for more information. A special thank you to our PTO for all of their hard work coordinating SOARS. They have done a fantastic job coordinating spirit nights once a month. Again, be sure to check out our social media for reminders as well as the Important Dates below for locations.
With changing weather, more items have a way of finding a home on the playground than with their owners. Please remind your student to check the lost and found for any items left behind. It is a great idea to put your child's name in or on any items brought to school so we can help them get back to their owners.
As always, it is a pleasure to partner with you.
Kimberly Davis
Principal

7 Mindsets - We are Connected
The We Are Connected Mindset teaches us that everyone who comes into our lives can help us to achieve and live our dreams. Working with, for, and through others is crucial to realizing our dreams. When you understand this and constantly seek the positives from relationships with others, your performance in every area of your life improves. In the lessons for this mindset, we help students explore synergies with others, embrace diversity, and relish the competition that will allow them to maximize their potential by working with and through others.
The 4 critical components of We are Connected are:
1. Embrace Everyone
2. Maximize Positive Relationships
3. Build Your Dream Team
4. Lead with Value

Cafeteria News
Apples and Peanuts
There are over 2,500 varieties of apples so they come in a lot of different shapes, sizes and colors. Apples are 25% air so they are less dense than water which is why they can float.
Peanuts and peanut butter have about 30 essential nutrients and phytonutrients. A peanut was brought to the moon by astronaut Allan Shepard. Peanut butter was originally made for people who didn’t have teeth!

Clinic News
Our clinics are in need of new size 5 underwear, gently used shorts/leggings size 5-10, crackers and ziplock sandwich bags. We so appreciate your donations! 😊
Please note that all Allergy and Asthma care plans need to be completed and signed by a physician June 1, 2022 or later to be accepted for the 22-23 school year. Also, all prescription medications will need a Request for Administration of Medication form completed by a physician. All these forms and care plans can be found on our webpage https://www.forsyth.k12.ga.us/domain/1005.
**Just a reminder that all medication needs to be brought to the clinic by a parent/guardian. Students are not permitted to carry medication at school per Forsyth County School Policy.
Forsyth County Schools are in need of Substitute Nurses. If you are a RN or LPN and would like more information, please contact Nurse Robyn or Nurse Kate. We would love to have you!
We always welcome your calls and emails. Nurse Robyn (PreK-1) RFreeze@forsyth.k12.ga.us and Nurse Kate (2-5) F36415@forsyth.k12.ga.us
Counseling Information
School Attendance is very important to the success of each student.
Sawnee Elementary has a “Strive for Less than Five” unexcused absence per year policy. We support every student in reaching his/her greatest potential and encourage parents to support children in maximizing academic instruction opportunities. Some of the potential consequences of absenteeism are listed below. We understand that injuries and illness occur. As such, parents should send in a doctor's note for necessary absences. We all share a common goal for our children to be safe and protected from all things harmful. Related to that goal, school counselors will be presenting body safety lessons beginning in October. Please see the attached letter for more information. Parent Letter
