Salk STRIDE Donation Campaign

The Salk STRIDE Campaign is a cash drive donation campaign where 100% of the amount donated will go to benefit Salk Middle School and our students! The campaign began September 20 and will run through October 21. There is still time to donate! Money donated will help cover the costs of some amazing extras at Salk such as: lab materials in science classrooms, online learning tools, instructional supplies across content areas and to maintain technology.

We are asking each family to donate a minimum of $20. Donations can include a combination of money received from grandparents, aunts and uncles, family friends, etc. If you can’t collect or give this amount, a donation of any amount would go a long way toward supporting our school. Unlike sales-based/product fundraisers where 10% to 20% of proceeds reach the school, 100% of your tax deductible cash or online donation will go to support Salk Middle School.

You can also find the donation link on the Salk Website Home Page under “Quick Links”.

INCENTIVES: All students whose family makes a donation of $20 will receive a FREE Salk Monkey pencil and if the combined total donation is $40 or greater they will also receive a FREE cookie coupon to be used at lunch. The homeroom or AVID class with the highest amount of funds raised will also receive a pizza party. The top 5 individual students who turn in the most donation dollars will receive a pizza party for them and a friend. We have currently reached our first goal of $4,000 and students will celebrate this goal on Wednesday, October 16 by being allowed to wear headwear of their choice - hats, wigs, durags, bandannas or scarves. And, if we reach our ultimate goal of $10,000 raised, we will have a Double Passing Time Day!! Thank you for supporting Salk Middle School!

How will the referendum impact Salk Middle School?

If both questions are approved, the district would do the following at Salk Middle School:

  • Renovate and improve the gymnasium.
  • Update and renovate the allied arts wing.
  • Increase and improve spaces related to programming, including music, mental health, and other learning areas.
  • Improve building restrooms.

If question one passes, the funds would be used across the district (including at Salk) to:

  • Support struggling students.
  • Maintain class size.
  • Support student mental health.
  • Update curriculum and other classroom materials.
  • Improve career and technical programs for students.

If question two passes, the funds would be used across the district to:

  • Build a middle school to address enrollment growth.
  • Address building maintenance needs across ISD 728, such as roofs, HVAC systems and parking lots, to maintain the community's investment in our schools.
  • Update indoor physical education and outdoor athletic facilities at all three traditional high schools to ensure the are equitable and adequate for students across the district.
  • Create more flexible learning spaces across the district and at all levels to support different student learning styles.

Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences

Conferences are a wonderful time for students and parents to connect with teachers to support ongoing success. This fall, Salk staff members will specifically reach out to parents/guardians of students that are currently demonstrating difficulty with academic and/or personal success. These families will be strongly encouraged to attend conferences on Thursday, October 24 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. At the middle school level, conferences are not scheduled, rather held arena style in the gym. Parents, along with their student, are encouraged to attend anytime during the open conference times. Please allow a minimum of one hour to be able to meet with each of your child's teachers. The last day of Quarter 1 will be October 31.

With the impetious of families being able to access their student's academic progress on a continual basis through Campus Portal or Schoology, we have found that some families do not feel a personal need to attend face to face conferences. It is ok if this is true for you! We want to meet your needs and that of your student while keeping the lines of communication open. If you find that your student is doing quite well this first quarter and you don't feel a need to discuss your child's progress in person, please know it is acceptable to not attend the conferences at this time. We encourage all parents/guardians to continue to reach out to teachers via email or phone at anytime during a quarter to seek clarfication or ask questions pertinent to that subject. Teacher emails can be found on our Salk website.

The second fall conferences will be held on November 23 from 12:00 - 4:30, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. This conference is approximately half way through Quarter 2.
