Daily Herald News!
CONGRATULATIONS to Michelle Connolly!
Michelle was recently awarded a literacy grant!! The grant is through Melissa Vosburg Books Build Brains. Here is a link to a website where you can learn more about her story.
In order to receive the grant, Michelle wrote a short essay about her life as an adolescent and as a teacher and how books have influenced her. She was awarded $500.00 to spend on literacy, including books, reading area accessories, and class room library materials.
Thank you for advocating for our kids!
A Guided Reading Lesson In Action!
Guided reading is just one component of balanced literacy (graphic above). See below for a great example of a guided reading lesson!
ANOTHER picture retake opportunity!
Blood Drive
As you can imagine, blood supplies across the country are being depleted quickly, and additional blood is needed. Our next Blood Drive is scheduled for Tues., Nov. 28th, from 3:30-7:00, in the elementary gym. At this time, all Big Hollow staff can schedule an appointment at www.lifesource.org.
Please consider helping us reach our target to collect 30 pints of blood!
In addition to receiving a jeans coupon and free custard, all staff participants' names will be entered into a raffle to win a Warrior Cafe Lunch Certificate valued at $12 or three Big Hollow lunches (Thanks Mrs. Longo!).
Thank you for helping us help others!

Please make sure to choose a pre-observation date/time, a formal observation date/time, and a post conference date/time. (Please choose two dates for formal observations if you are non-tenured.) You will see there is only one AM time and one PM slot available each day for meetings/observations. I need to have summative evaluations for non tenured staff completed in March. I need to have summatives for tenured staff completed by early May.
Mr. Munoz will be completing informals as well. Thank you, and please let me know if you have any questions!

Recycling- PLEASE READ!!!
This year we will be enhancing our recycling program. We need your help! There will be new recycling containers placed in your classrooms. We need to avoid throwing items in the garbage if they can be recycled.
Students will need some help determining what is recyclable and what is not when placing items in your classroom bins. Attached is a flyer that I was hoping you could all share with your students on Tuesday to help facilitate this.
Every night, we will be asking the cleaning company to empty your classroom bins into the large recycling bins in the pods. Those will then be taken to the bins outside in back of the school.
