Principal's Message
'Twas the week before Christmas and all through the school, not a student was quiet, excitement rules! What a fun time of year.
Remember when reading out loud to your child was a staple of the nightly routine? Now maybe they are a little older and can read independently. This holiday break I encourage you to make the time to read aloud to your son or daughter, no matter the age.
While reading, you can help your child’s understanding with questions that build critical thinking skills and increased comprehension. For example, you might ask:
- What do you think might happen next?
- Why do you think _______? (a character did something, or an event happened)
- Does this remind you of anything? (an event in your child’s life, another book, character, etc)
Any discussion about what your child is reading is valuable. The most important thing, though, is your child is learning to see reading as an enjoyable lifelong activity. Thank you for helping to model that at home.
Or maybe your family likes to play games together. Games help teach many important skills: turn-taking, decision making, following directions, communication skills, and how to be a good sport. Again, that time spent together is how memories are made.
Finally, thank you for your diligence and help during the school year. We appreciate your understanding when we follow our Covid close contact protocols and when your child or children are quarantined. We also appreciate you for taking the safe approach and keeping a child home when there is any question about their health and wellness. Over the break, please continue to call our attendance/health line, 262-560-8002, should your child develop Covid symptoms or be diagnosed with Covid. We will continue to follow up with contact tracing and setting return dates as needed.
Have a safe and happy holiday season!

USDA EXTENDS FREE MEAL PROGRAM
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service has again extended the free student meals program, providing a free breakfast and lunch option for students until June 30, 2021, or until the USDA confirms that funding is no longer available, whichever comes first. As a result, student breakfast and lunch will be free on the days that students are learning at school face-to-face, and the days that students are learning virtually.
New Illness Updates
We strongly encourage you to monitor your child's health continually. It's important to be mindful of any illness symptoms that your child may have before sending them to school. Please keep you child home if they are ill.
If you need information on how to contact your school attendance line, please visit the Absence Reporting Information page on our website.
If you need help understanding when your child should return to school, please visit the Absence Reporting Information page or the "OASD Health Services Information" drop-down on the OASD Learning Hub page.
Both pages have detailed illness guidelines and a video from OASD Health Services Director, Mrs. Deal.
