Symphonic Band Update
Below is important information about the week to come!
Recording assignments
Percussion parents, please disregard.
This week's recording is of four major scales from the One Octave Major Scales page in your student's binder.
Your students need to have eight scales passed off this week and twelve by next Sunday at midnight. Ask your kids how many scales they have passed off!
Reeds (Clarinet, Sax, Oboe, Bassoon parents only!)
These are the specific reeds you should order:
Clarinets - D'Addario Reserve Classic strength 3.5 (Some students may be on 3.5+)
Saxophones - Vandoren Blue Box, strength 3
Oboes - Ask lesson teacher for reeds
Bassoons - Ask lesson teacher for reeds
Practice reports
Percussion parents, please disregard.
Practice Reports are due with a parent signature the first school day of every week. This is no longer just a completion grade. Your students will earn a grade based on the amount of minutes they practice throughout the course of the week. The rubric is below:
0 - No practice report turned in OR 0 minutes on practice report
70 - 1 to 29 minutes practiced
80 - 30 - 59minutes practiced
90 - 60 - 119 minutes practiced
100 - 120 minutes or more
Sectionals
Our sectional schedule will stay exactly the same as last semester.
This week's changes:
- Monday (No school) - No Trumpet sectionals
- Friday (Academic UIL) - No Friday sectionals
PLEASE DO NOT SCHEDULE ANY MAJOR DENTAL/ORTHODONTIC PROCEDURES UNTIL AFTER MAY 20TH
If you take a look at our competition schedule, you'll notice just how busy it is, with a major event every 2-3 weeks.
Now that our competitive season has started, it’s important that all band students stay in playing shape for the entire semester. Please do not schedule your students to get braces or have any major procedures done until the end of the semester. These can take your students out of playing shape for several weeks sometimes as they learn to adjust the way they play and get used to the braces. The best time to do this is over the summer!
It’s also important to make sure you don’t have braces tightened within a few days of a performance as that will affect your students pretty dramatically as well.
Private Lessons - Now is your best opportunity to get started!
Please email me if your student is not in private lessons but you'd like more information!
Private lessons are highly encouraged and will help improve your student’s individual ability. Your student will receive one on one instruction from an expert on their instrument once per week for 30 minutes. What the high school is able to achieve is built over time and starts in the middle school. Private lessons are such a large contributor to the entire program’s success. Lessons have already begun to be scheduled, but it is not too late! We strongly encourage private lessons for ALL students!
Email a director for more information!
