Daily Math Review
Students at Glenwood work on the daily math review. The daily math review gives students extra practice in previously taught concepts. Consistent practice over time can be the key to helping many students master and retain a concept. Students may work on place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, measurement and data, fractions, geometry and word problems. As students work through these concepts, teachers can assess which skills their students have mastered and which skills need to be reviewed or re-taught. Every Friday students take a weekly math quiz. This quiz gives parents the opportunity to understand what children are working on. The quiz is always reviewed together, ways to solve the problems are presented in class, and all children are asked to correct their answers over the weekend. It is important that these quizzes are signed by parents and returned. This home-school connection is key to a child's success in developing math skills. The daily math review informs instruction at Glenwood and gives teachers a better understanding of what students know and are able to do. In Mr. Lague's class, clearly written on a window, is the statement, "Mistakes are part of learning." At Glenwood, we ask students to take a risk, do their best, and learn from any mistakes. The daily math review is one way in which students can learn from their mistakes.
I have attached a copy of the daily math review and weekly quiz.

Notes from Mrs. Lawton, School Nurse
Health Update 10/20/2017:
- I hope you are all enjoying this great fall weather lately. With the Winter season around the corner and the need to wear hats, I wanted to remind Parents and Guardians to remind their children that they should not be sharing hats/visors with other children, and also they should not be sharing hair implements. You should be checking your child’s hair on a continuous basis. If you discover head lice in your child's hair, do not send them to school. You should notify the health office and you will need to notify your MD and they will need to be properly treated before coming back to school. When they do return to school, they need to be checked here in the health office before they return to class.
- Thank you to all those that have sent in recent copies of their children’s MD physicals and updated immunizations- I appreciate it. For those of you who haven’t been able to yet- if you could send them along as soon as possible, that would be great!
- When we receive a note from a doctor letting us know a child can not participate in gym class, we have to follow the doctor's orders. Therefore, a students cannot return to gym without updated orders that clear them for participation. Please make sure there is a start and end date, if possible, on doctor's orders.
- Flu season is coming. Certain everyday preventive actions – like covering your cough and frequent hand washing – can help keep germs from spreading.
Protect yourself and your family by routinely taking these actions:
- Keep yourself and children away from people who are sick as much as you can.
- If you get the flu or flu symptoms, avoid contact with other people, so that you don’t make them sick.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze—throw the tissue away after you use it.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. If you are not near water, use an alcohol-based hand cleaner.
- Try not to touch your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs often spread this way.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, especially when someone is ill.
