What's New?
Open eBooks Access!
We are excited to be able to offer all of our students free, popular eBooks for their age group through the Open eBooks initiative. Information about this exciting opportunity has been shared with all students and we are looking forward to this program expanding your access to eBooks. There is more information about this program on the homepage of our library website, on the district website, and in the VoiceThread embedded below. If you lose your access code and pin, just email Mrs. Simpson or stop by the library for another copy.
The Library Is Busy...And We Love It!
Online dual credit classes are in full swing. The library currently serves as an online classroom for 19 different dual credit classes. In addition to online dual credit, there are several students recovering high school credit online, using the library for a study hall and one student is taking an enrichment class to learn Russian! As well as a full time classroom, students continue to enjoy the brain break opportunities available in the library, such as coloring, puzzles and games. During Advisory, there are currently 14 A+ tutors available to tutor other students that come for help in all different subjects.
Need A Great Read? Check Out The Displays!
During the month of September, our library display featured a “Banned Books” display. Students enjoyed checking out books that have been banned at one time or another and learning about the history of banned books. Currently, there are several displays for the month of October. The “Take the Bait” display peaks curiosity by giving the first line or lines to a book that we have in the library and students can lift the flap to see what the title is. There is also a display of “Spooky Titles” in honor of Halloween. We have recently added an extensive display of new books to our library, thanks to purchases made possible by the Scholastic Book Fair. We also now offer several popular titles on playaway. A playaway is a pre-recorded audio device that can be used with headphones to listen to books! And, as always, we have our Truman Reader Award books and Gateway Reader Award books displayed. These are always popular, as the students can vote on a winner in the spring if they have read three or more nominees.
ENTER TO WIN!!
The Daniel Boone Library is hosting a Teen Book Face contest. We held a similar contest in the HHS Library in the spring. Students are encouraged to use their entries from that contest to enter the Daniel Boone contest. Photos can be submitted at teens.dbrl.org. Barnes & Noble gift cards will be awarded for the winning entries. Entries are due December 2. Ages 12-18.
