A Message from Principal Blair

The 2nd semester is a great time to ensure your child has adequate school supplies on hand. Be sure to replenish pencil and paper needs, along with composition books and folders. Wired earbuds are also utilized on a regular basis.

Report cards were distributed on Friday for the 2nd Nine-Week grading cycle. You should also have received a mail-out this week which details your child's progress in reading and math thus far. Please review this data along with report cards with your student. If the data indicates a need, develop a plan for success including tutorial dates, study habits, and dedicated reading each day. Studies show that attending tutorials regularly has a positive impact on student performance. Please review the updated Spring tutorial schedule.

The JHS/JMS Course Selection Guide is now live on the district website. The course catalog will continue to have updates; be sure to refer to the live link for the most accurate information. Our students will soon make course selections for the 2022-23 school year. For more information, please review the registration timeline included in this week's edition.

JMS Counselor's Corner

With the onset of a brand new year, it is often a great time to set brand new goals. While we are in the middle of our school year, this is an excellent time to reflect on our progress toward current goals and possibly set some new ones.

One guide to setting goals is using the acronym SMART. SMART goals are considered to be goals which are:

S—specific

M—measurable

A—attainable

R—relevant

T—timely

Take a few minutes to review the following article that provides guidance to parents with the goal-setting process. Smart Goal-Setting with Students

Library Notes & Tech Tips from Mrs. Martone

The beginning of a new year is a great time to reassess our use of social media and the impact it has on our lives. This month during ELAR class library visits, students will be discussing how social media affects their relationships with others. Common Sense Media has useful resources for parents to help start the conversation with their kids regarding social media and online relationships. Check them out here and here!
