Cuneiform VS. Hieroglyphics
By: Julia Vosmeier
How was cuneiform and hieroglyphics created?
Cuneiform was created by the Sumerians of Mesopotamia in 5000 B.C. The name comes from the Latin word cuneus for `wedge' owing to the wedge-shaped style of writing. In cuneiform, a carefully cut writing implement known as a stylus is pressed into soft clay.
Hieroglyphics were created in 3500 B.C. "Hieroglyph" comes from and ancient Greek word, hieroglifikos. Hieroglyphics were created for a basic writing system for the Egyptions. The Egyptions and the Sumerians were the ones that created hieroglyphics.
Why were Hieroglyphics and Cuneiform important?
Both hieroglyphics and cuneiform are important because it is what made the modern writing into what it is now.
