Student Attendance
Staff still takes attendance and tracks each child’s engagement each day. Maintaining morning and evening routines is a great way to support your child’s attendance and education.
Involve your child in developing a routine. For example:
- The night before school, have your child help set up the work area, lay out materials, and check to ensure that their schoolwork is complete. Preparations done the night before help to ease the start of the next day.
- In the morning, they can use an alarm clock to allow time for breakfast and then get settled at least 5-10 minutes before the first online session.
Students being PRESENT means: Check Attendance through ParentVUE!
- Logging on to their assigned online session 5-10 minutes before it begins. This ensures that they will be on time online!
- Having all materials needed for the session such as a pencil, a notebook, and their workbooks and textbooks.
- Actively listening and participating in online sessions.
- Removing distractions from the student's work area.
Students being ENGAGED means: Check Grades through ParentVUE!
- Participating in their scheduled online sessions.
- Completing assignments and assessments.
- Asking clarifying questions for better understanding.
- Following along with the lesson during the online session.
- Participating in activities assigned by the classroom teacher.
Student participation and engagement is tracked on a daily basis in addition to daily attendance. Students are expected to participate in both synchronous and asynchronous instruction.
Students being SUPPORTED means:
- Having access to their teacher when having difficulty understanding the lesson/s provided.
- Being engaged in social emotional learning lessons to support the student's social emotional development.
- Addressing any barriers that the student may be experiencing that are interfering with their daily learning.
- Having access to a trusted adult when having a challenging time.
- Having access to counseling if needed.
NEW FEATURE!! You can now check your child's daily attendance through ParentVUE!
If you need assistance logging into your ParentVUE account, please call the district office at (760) 335-5200 or email onlineregistration@muesd.net.

Reminders During Distance Learning Instruction
Attendance and Presence in Class:
- Be punctual and in the waiting room.
- Be sure your child’s chair is comfortable, but size-appropriate. Use pillows to keep the child towards the front of the seat. Students must sit as if they were in class: no blankets, no cell phones, and no eating during instruction.
- Position your child’s chair with an appropriate background. Be mindful of family or pets behind the child that may be a distraction to other students.
- Remember … there is a group of 20-35 students in your home during online instruction. Please keep background noise and personal conversations to a minimum. Chromebook and tablet mics pick up even the softest of whispers.
·
Monitoring the Child:
- Remind your child that the camera lens should be open AT ALL TIMES DURING INSTRUCTION unless otherwise directed by the teacher.
- Assist your child with technology, but not with class work.
- Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep each night and a good breakfast each morning to help your child stay alert.
Tips for Zoom/Google Meet/Google Classroom:
- Students should be using their school accounts (through Clever or Google Classroom) to log into Zoom and Google Meet.
- If students are using a personal device where multiple accounts are logged in, they may receive an error message, or be unable to join or open files in Google Classroom. Please be sure all personal accounts are signed out and that their school account is the active account on the device if you are experiencing these issues.
- If issues persist with logins, please contact the Tech Support Hotline at (760) 335-5200.
