Awesome Atholton Talent!
Dear Atholton Families,
I hope everyone had a terrific weekend and you are enjoying the snow day! If you haven't received the notice, there is a 2hr delay tomorrow, January 15, 2019.
We are one week away before midterm exams. During our last staff meeting, it was reiterated with teachers to adhere to the county schedule regarding midterm exams. Students should not be given second and third parts of an exam that fall outside the designated exam day. It is already a stressful time for students, we do not want to compound the stress.
The first of many meetings with our senior class will occur this Wednesday during Raider Time. We will discuss graduation, auditions for performers and speakers, and cap and gown information. If you have a senior, please be sure to mention to him or her the meeting on Wednesday.
Finally, I had the opportunity to attend the 25th Annual Howard County Dance Festival this past weekend. I was truly impressed by the quality of routines put on by each school. However, I must say that the Atholton dancers were sensational, awe-inspiring, and unsurpassed! Kudos to each of them and their outstanding teacher, Mrs. Heather Haffey. Howard County is a special place where the arts are valued and our students are allowed to showcase their talent.
Please be sure to read the message from HCPSS regarding those individuals impacted by the government shutdown.
Warmly,
Robert A. Motley
Principal

HCPSS Notice to Families Impacted by the Government Shutdown
Dear HCPSS Families,
The ongoing shutdown of the federal government has caused financial hardship for too many of our friends and neighbors. Additionally, we know that students are experiencing anxiety and fear for their family's financial situation. I wanted to let you know of a few supports that are in place to help at this time.
Howard County families who have lost pay due to the shutdown may immediately apply for the Free and Reduced-Priced Meals (FARMs) program and the HCPSS Food and Nutrition Office will determine their eligibility status within 24-48 hours. Families that would not ordinarily qualify for the FARMs program could be eligible for the remainder of the school year because of the current loss of income.
Families that are adversely impacted, including those who do not receive FARMs assistance, will have the remainder of the school year to pay off any meal balances incurred during the government shutdown.
Additionally, many students may be suffering fear or anxiety about their family’s current financial situation. Student Services staff at each school are prepared and available to assist students at any time during the school day. Additionally, numerous resources for families are identified on the HCPSS website, and other supports are available through the Howard County Department of Community Resources and Services.
