There is sooooo much to do in Rio, Brazil
First of all you can go to see, " Christ the redeemer" which is a statue on top of the mountain, Corcavado. I think this statue gives Rio such a cool feel. Next, you could also go to the many beaches they have there, some of the most popular beaches would include: Copacabana, Ipanema, Barra da Tijuca Beach, Prainha Beach, Praia Vermelha. These are justsome of the many things you can do in Rio, Brazil. Rio is soo much fun for both adults and kids. FOOD!!!! Yes, food everyone loves it. Feijoada is a traditional dish from Africa and is made with meat and black beans. It is usually served in Rio on Wednesday and Saturdays. This just one exampl eof the many popular foods in Brazil/Rio.
Yea, I know history really isn't worthy of four exclamation points for most people, but I promise Rio's history is pretty cool. So Rio de Janeiro got it's cool name when it's Portuguese founders found Brazil in 1502. The founder of the bay Guanabara, Andre Gonclaves mistook the bay for the mouth of a river (rio is mouth of river in Portuguese) and he found it in the middle January (janeiro is January in Portuguese) and it just stuck so that is where the name of Rio de Janeiro. Rio is located in Brazil which is in east Soutg America.
Events You May or May Not Know About in Rio.
As many of you know Rio properly know as Rio de Janeiro is going to be the host for the 2016 Summer Olympics. There is still a little controversy over if they should still be held in Rio due to the spread of the Zika virus in Brazil. The games start Friday, August 5th 2016 and end Sunday, August 21st 2016. Also, even though it has already passed in Rio there is the Rio Carnival. The Rio Carnival is world famous. The carnival begins four days previous to the beginning of Lent. These carnivals are filled with amazing costumes and many floats.
