REFORMS OF THE PROGRESSIVE ERA
Emily Dugle
Progressives:
Reformers who attempted to solve problems caused by industry, growth of cities, and Laissez Faire.
Motives of progressives:
They wanted their children to have good lives and have college educations.
Local state reform: 1900 Galvestan, TX hurricane- The city put in place a new mayor and a 5 person commission to run the town
Federal reform: Pure food and drug act- We now no longer have human ligaments in our food due to this act! Agents are now required to inspect meat, plants, and medicine for the well being of people.
SUFFRAGE
Child labor
Many children lost lives due to working in dangerous factories.
Workers rights
Workers were put in dangerous working conditions. These conditions were corrected to where people were in air conditioned work areas with safety precautions to the work area.
Most important social reform:
The most important social reform is the Women's Rights Movement. Without this women would not have equal rights as men. Women should have the same rights as everyone in America and this reform made that possible.
The most important business reform: FDA
The FDA makes sure that our food and drugs are clean and being handled in a good manner. Without this act there would be unknown sources in our food to this day. People's hands would be in our hot dogs and our meat would taste terrible because of all the animals stressing.
Progressive amendments and how they impacted our lives:
The progressive amendments made the American life much more enjoyable and safer. Things are much safer now and not as dangerous such as factories. Factories have to have safe working conditions so a bunch of people won't die.
These ideas were pretty new to the American society. It made the American life so much better and safer.
