Let's Talk about Numbers!

Number talks are used by a teacher to engage students in mental math through interesting mathematics problems. Mrs. Benjamin listens to the 4th-grade students as they talk about adding fractions with different denominators. The students are able to reflect on strategies and understand how to think about numbers.

Who Needs a Brain Break!

When students get restless, have been sitting for a while, or need to recharge, teachers provide brain breaks! These activities get oxygen to the brain, boost blood flow, and help students retain information. These first-grade students enjoy a Go Noodle activity.

GT 5th-Grade TAG Project

These fifth-grade students in the Terril building held a fundraiser for those affected by the recent flooding and fires around the United States. The students created posters and counted funds that were collected. Thank you for the caring hearts!

The students learned about diffusion as Mrs. Goodchild sprayed cologne in the classroom. Students on one side of the room could smell the scent before the other side of the classroom.

STEM Challenge

These GT 2nd-grade girls entered the Rozzy STEAM Challenge. The challenge was sponsored by the Rozzy Company, a group of educators that support students by developing programs based on science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Taryn Duus and Leah Ness both received the lnnovator Ambassador Award for their projects.

6th Grade Westing Games Projects

Mrs. Jungers' 6th-grade class read the book The Westing Games by Ellen Raskin. After reading the story students created something to represent a scene or character from the book. They then had to give a speech to the class on the project and book.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

Mrs. Zylstra had her 5th-grade class read the book The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. The students then wrote about the beginning, middle, and end. Wardrobes were created to display this information.

Physical Science

The physical science class completed an experiment that displayed velocity, speed, and distance. Students then graphed their results. This picture shows three different experiments with different models to find these results.

Foods Class Cookie Baking

The foods class prepared cookies for the GT elementary PBIS Titan Store. The students worked on perfecting cookie baking. The class is working on finding the perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe this semester.

RA Juniors "Play" with Figurative Language

Mrs. Kirk's juniors are quickly working towards semester final and returning from the break to start "The Crucible." Here they are creating from playdoh their favorite line of figurative language from "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God." Enjoy the playdoh metaphors, similes, personification, and allusions!
