This Week
- Writing: Students will continue working on an informative piece based on the unit of study (Animal Adaptations). In class, students will learn how to evaluate online and text sources and research skills to research an animal for their informative writing.
- Reading Comprehension: Students will continue reading through our Unit 3 text about animal adaptations. We will focus on finding key details to determine the main idea.
- Word Study: introduce r-controlled vowels (-er, -ir, -ur).
- Fluency: reading with correct pacing (Goldilocks-not too fast, not too slow), reading each word carefully, and reading with expression (Flip a switch.... not like a robot).
- Math: We will begin our unit on multiplication and division. Students will gain an understanding that multiplication is combining equal groups. Students will explore things that come in equal groups. Things like pencils, papers, hotdogs, and eggs are sold in groups. Students will begin to understand that multiplication is combining equal groups.
- Mystery Science : This week we will begin a unit of study called “Animals Through Time.” In our first Mystery we will explore the idea that the rock under our feet sometimes contains fossils. Those fossils reveal how habitats have changed through time. For example, fossil shark teeth and fossil starfish found in the center of North America are evidence that what is grassland today must have been an ocean in the ancient past. You can help support your child’s learning by striking up a conversation about an exotic habitat you might have visited on vacation. If feasible, consider visiting the nearest science museum and/or quarry to see any local fossils that have been found in our region.
