Role of the SEPAC
Role of the Special Education Parents' Advisory Council (SEPAC)
Special Education Parent Advisory Councils are district-level, parent-driven groups that provide input into the local school district on system-level challenges in special education. This workshop defines the specific role of SEPACs under Massachusetts law, and discusses ways a SEPAC can reach out to and support families.
Presenter: Leslie M. Leslie, Project Director, Federation for Children with Special Needs
Leslie joined the Federation for Children with Special Needs in 2011 and serves as Project Director for the parent leadership project, providing technical assistance to both Special Education Parent Advisory Councils (SEPACs) and District special education administrators. Leslie supports the family engagement and post-secondary transition work at FCSN, and represents the Federation on numerous statewide advisory boards. Leslie is the mother of two young adult sons, both of whom attended public school on an IEP.
