Kindergarten Newsletter
Week Of March 19th
Highlights from last week....
In Reader's Workshop, we reviewed the strategies that we learned thus far. They are doing a great job using their reading strategies! We also worked on building our schema, which is our background knowledge, to help us read.
In Writer's Workshop, we continued our realistic fiction stories.
In phonics, we focused on digraphs.
In Math, we worked on number bonds and number sentences. Our focus was on decomposing the numbers 9 and 10.
A peek at our learning this week....
In Reader's Workshop, we will be working on how readers think while they read. We will be using our schema as we read our books. The kids LOVE sharing their schema with us and then we make a big deal when we learn something new and we discuss how we just added to our schema. It is so much fun learning with your children!
In phonics, we will focus on rhyming, word families and short vowels. After assessing our friends, we realized that these are the areas that need the most work. Please rhyme with your children at home. Remember rhyming words are words that sound the same at the end of the word.
In Math, we will be working on number bonds and number sentences. We will be focusing on adding or "composing" this week. We will focus on number stories and work on acting them out, writing the sentence and creating a number bond to match the sentence. It is amazing to see our friends in math, they are doing great!
In Science, we will continue learning about plants.
We will continue our author study on Eric Carle.

Thank you for working with your child on their traps, they looked awesome!! Hopefully, we can catch that tricky little guy!
Please continue practicing letters sounds, blending cvc words (big, dog, rip, etc), and sight words. These are the big skills needed for reading.
Book orders are due this week.
