## Highlights from last week....

Wow, what a week! Our friends did a wonderful job creating the best leprechaun traps, thank you for your support in this activity. We will see if we caught him tomorrow!!

In Reader's Workshop, we reviewed the strategies that we learned thus far. They are doing a great job using their reading strategies! We also worked on building our schema, which is our background knowledge, to help us read.

In Writer's Workshop, we continued our realistic fiction stories.

In phonics, we focused on digraphs.

In Math, we worked on number bonds and number sentences. Our focus was on decomposing the numbers 9 and 10.

We read many of Eric Carle's books and discussed the similarities and differences of each of his books. The students can now identify Eric Carle books based on the illustrations. We also made several text to text connections during this author study.

## A peek at our learning this week....

Well, Happy Spring!! Our math and reading skills are soaring!

In Reader's Workshop, we will be working on how readers think while they read. We will be using our schema as we read our books. The kids LOVE sharing their schema with us and then we make a big deal when we learn something new and we discuss how we just added to our schema. It is so much fun learning with your children!

In phonics, we will focus on rhyming, word families and short vowels. After assessing our friends, we realized that these are the areas that need the most work. Please rhyme with your children at home. Remember rhyming words are words that sound the same at the end of the word.

In Math, we will be working on number bonds and number sentences. We will be focusing on adding or "composing" this week. We will focus on number stories and work on acting them out, writing the sentence and creating a number bond to match the sentence. It is amazing to see our friends in math, they are doing great!

In Science, we will continue learning about plants.

We will continue our author study on Eric Carle.

Wednesday is picture day for those who would like to order.

Yankee Candle Fundraiser- running now through next week. The funds will help support our field trip in June.

## A note from Miss Driscoll

Your children worked very hard last week! The leprechaun traps that came in were AMAZING!!! On Friday, we made sure to set them in a great place to catch some leprechauns!

Since I was unable to get book orders out last week, they will be due next Monday, March 26th! Please send them in or order online if you wish to purchase books.

This week will be another busy week, please continue practicing reading, sight words, addition, and subtraction sentences at home.

Have a great week!

## A note from Mrs. Maillet

Thank you for working with your child on their traps, they looked awesome!! Hopefully, we can catch that tricky little guy!

Please continue practicing letters sounds, blending cvc words (big, dog, rip, etc), and sight words. These are the big skills needed for reading.

Book orders are due this week.

## A note from Mrs. Potter

It is amazing to see such great progress in all areas!! We really have some great readers!! Please keep reading to your child and having them read to you!! The more practice and exposure to books that they get, the better! :)

Book orders are due Friday!

## A note from Mrs. Marcoux

Thank you for building the leprechaun traps with the children, we had a lot of fun setting them up and trying to catch Acer the leprechaun. The children had so much fun imagining catching him and were delighted to see that he had left them some treats. We had a few students leave the traps in the room as they were too large to take home on the bus, let me know what you'd like to do with them.

We will continue reading in our leveled books this week. The children are doing very well with this! They love to find sight words in their books. In math, we will continue working with number bonds.

I will extend the order date for book orders to this Friday.

Thanks for all that you do!

Mrs. Marcoux

## A note from Mrs. Goldthwaite

Looking forward to see if we have caught that tricky guy. The traps were wonderful. I hope you had fun creating them. We enjoyed listening to how each trap was going to trap him.

PTO is having a toy BINGO this Friday. Hope to see you there. It a great time.
