What's Going On In The World Of Rossman Elementary

Teacher Appreciation Week!

Rossman Families,

We kick off the month of May celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week! I continue to be impressed with our staff - we are beyond fortunate to have such a great team. We also close out the week by honoring our Food Service Staff on Friday for School Lunch Hero Day.

Also this week we hop back into MCA Testing for Grades 3-5. They will be taking the Math assessment spread over Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. This week also marks the end of after-school SAIL programming on Thursday and all library books should be returned to the Rossman Media Center. Just a few other reminders

  • Rossman PTO Meeting - The Rossman PTO will be meeting on Monday, May 3rd (today) at 4:30 PM.

  • Last Day of School - Picnic Form - Last week a form was sent home in Wednesday Folders for students to sign-up for a bag lunch on the last day of school. Students can either elect a bag lunch from school or bring their own lunch.

  • 5th Grade Graduation - We will be holding our annual 5th Grade Graduation on Wednesday, May 26th at 2:00 PM at The Historic Holmes Theatre. Families of 5th Graders should watch for details on Seesaw in the upcoming weeks.

  • Kindergarten Roundup - We have scheduled our dates to provide a modified version of Kindergarten Roundup. We will be holding small group sessions on Monday, June 7th and Tuesday, June 8th. Families that have completed their Kindergarten registration paperwork will be contacted in May to schedule a Kindergarten Roundup session.

Summer SAIL Programming

Detroit Lakes Public Schools is VERY excited to announce some great summer programming for our students! There are four different opportunities your child can participate in: Art Adventures, SAILing into Summer (reading/math camp), Tech Time, and Learning Outdoors in the Outdoors at Tamarac. We are hoping that COVID won't pose any troubles but be aware that changes may need to be made at the last minute regarding personnel, class size and/or location.

All registration forms can be found on your school’s website under About Us - SAIL Programming.

  • Art Adventures: This is geared for students that just finished kindergarten up through 8th grade interested in art. Students can either sign up for the week of June 7 or June 14 (not both).

  • SAILing into Summer (reading/math camp): This is for students needing academic reinforcement in reading and math. There will also be a STEM focus. This is geared for students that just finished kindergarten up through 5th grade. The camp will run from June 21 through July 1, and a separate one from August 16 - 22.

  • Tech Time: The students will explore video and photo production in the morning and coding in the afternoons. This is geared for students that just finished 3rd grade up through 8th grade. The camp will run from July 19 - 22. This class has a limited capacity so will be filled on a first come first serve basis.

  • Learning Outdoors in the Outdoors at Tamarac: This is geared for students that just finished kindergarten up through 8th grade. It will be Monday through Thursday from 8:00 - 3:00 with lunch provided. Students can either sign up for the week of August 2 or August 9 (not both). This camp will be held at Tamarac..

Big picture

Rossman Elementary School

Rossman Elementary is a K-5 elementary school that provides balanced academic programming to meet the unique needs of our students. We offer time daily in the core academic areas of Reading and Math to either intervene or extend prior learning, as well as continue to incorporate STEM based learning opportunities.

The Rossman Community creates positive relationships, mutual respect, and ownership of behaviors through character education, while providing a foundation for academic success within a safe and caring learning environment. We encourage students to maintain positive behavior using a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) model that centers on the following character traits: Respect, Responsibility, Citizenship, Caring, Trustworthiness, and Fairness. We also hope to lay the foundations for college and career readiness for our students, by enhancing communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking skills.
