"Dallas has a record with the police a mile long" (Hinton 95). This is a hyperbole because it is an exaggeration of how much Dallas gets in trouble with he police.
Idiom
"One was screaming his head off"(92). This is an idiom because it is a phrase that you would have no understanding of it if you translated it literally.
Simile
"He's got eyes that are like two pieces of pale blue-green ice"(6). This is a simile because it shows a comparison using like or as.
Personification
"Lively, dancing, recklessly laughing eyes that can be sympathetic one moment and blazing with anger the next"(8). This is personification because it gives his eyes emotions.
Idiom
"Beat the tar out of him" (35). This is an idiom because it is not translated literal.
