Jackson Newsletter
October / November
Dear Jackson Families,
We can't believe it is already second quarter. Thank you for sending your student ready to learn each day. With your support we will continue to make academic progress.
Last week our School Support Liaison, Mr. Sagert, recognized our students who qualified for Strive for 95. They were present 95% of the school days so far. Each student received a certificate and some were drawn for prizes. We hope your student is able to participate next quarter. Attend each day. On Time. All Day.
Student Council organized a Can Food Drive to benefit First Lutheran Church's Food Pantry. We are collecting non-perishable food items from now until November 4. On November 4, students will walk the cans their classroom collected across the street and deliver them to the food pantry. First Lutheran is also our evacuation site. We will review the emergency procedure with students too.
Red Ribbon Week is October 24 - 26. The theme is Celebrate Life. Live Drug-Free. We will recognize this with a spirit week. See the flyer below.
Conferences are October 26 or 27. Our goal is 100% attendance for student-led conferences. Be sure you have signed up for a time. Call the office if you need assistance. In grades 1-6 during the first 10 minutes fo the conference, your child will share their learning with you. This portion will be student-led in one classroom. Then you will be able to meet with the English and Spanish teacher for the last 10 minutes in the other classroom. You will also receive your child's MAP results and last year's grade 3-5 state tests results if your child participated. We look forward to partnering with you during conferences.
During conferences, be sure to visit the gym and the library. The gym will have some great give-aways. Find the Scholastic Book Fair in the Library. Proceeds from the book sales will benefit our Jackson library! You can also shop online starting October 21 at:

Thank you for following the traffic flow during arrival and dismissal. Please remember, do not use the top section of the bus lane when cones are reserving for the bus. Do not park in the bus lane. If you need to park, please use the parking lot to the west or park in the neighborhood. Only cross with students at the crosswalks. The north alley is reserved for daycare.
School attendance is very important. Students should attend school regularly, on time, and all day. If your child is sick, please call the office, 531-299-1620, to report the absence. Do not send your child to school if they are sick.

Safety is a Priority
Safety is always our top priority. We are focused on providing safe, welcoming and supportive environments for our students and staff.
We are teaching all students behavior expectations from the classroom to the lunchroom and recess, or extra-curricular activities. Our Student Code of Conduct outlines expectations and discipline related to the safety and well-being of our students and staff. Consequences are designed to be a learning experience for students. Families play an essential role in promoting school safety. Regularly discuss behavior expectations and consequences with your student at home, and check in daily with your student to know what's going well and what may be a challenge.
If you or your student see concerning behavior, report it immediately to a trusted staff member at school or Safe2Help Nebraska. A Safe2Help Nebraska link is installed on all student iPads. Families can also call (531) 299-SAFE. We regularly practice our district’s Standard Response Protocol in case of emergency (fire, evacuation, severe weather and more).
Thank you for your partnership in promoting safe, welcoming and supportive schools.
Interested in Volunteering?
Please use link to complete the volunteer application:
https://omaha.tedk12.com/hire/ViewJob.aspx?JobID=11509
All adults who wish to volunteer on a school campus or chaperone day field trips, and district sponsored activity with students need to complete the application BEFORE volunteering with students or in the building. The required Volunteer Application allows the District and the schools to provide the appropriate level of clearance for school volunteers, protecting our students. Level 3 volunteering requires a background check.
All volunteers must reapply each school year to be considered for volunteer opportunities.
