Orcas in captivity
By Alfredo Gomez
Thesis
The message that I got from the Blackfish documentary is that Orcas in captivity are more likely to have a shortened life span, more out lashes at people, and physical or social problems.
Purpose
The purpose that should be seen throughout this documentary is that captivity in general is not very good, and not just for the Orcas but for dolphins or polar bears as well. Throughout the whole movie it showed us from the very beginning how they grabbed the whales and how they treated them. The movie also showed us that as they were snatched from the wild they went from having all the sea to basically nothing, and for them it was probably a hard transition.
Purpose Achieved
Some strategies that I think they used was the information of lots of different people, which can also mean different perspectives. Specifically when they were taking the babies away from the families, we could all see that the mothers were very sad and that the babies were scared. So it isn't like the whales don't have feelings because we could all tell that they were very sad when this process was taking place.
Conclusion
Blackfish was overall really good in my perspective, but know when I go to sea world I will know a little bit about the history. I have always seen animals as one of us because if your kids were being taken then you would be extremely sad, so it isn't like we are the only species that have feelings on this earth.
