What are we learning?
In English, we are beginning our new theme. We will be reading and working with Jan Brett books! We have already toured the author's website and we are so excited to see the many tutorial videos of "how to draw..." Ask your child who Jan Brett is and how her stories are inspired! Check out the link below for the official Jan Brett website.
In Math, we are continuing to learn and work with numbers to 1000. We will be focusing on place value as well as representing numbers pictorially and symbolically. Throughout this unit we will continue to develop our number sense and will also be working on our math facts too.
French language arts will be busy! We are continuing to work on reading comprehension and the strategies to use to increase comprehension. We are also working on including inference and predictions while we read. We are currently working on descriptive writing and using "juicy" words in our writing. We are currently finishing up our haunted house descriptions and will be writing a new piece which will allow us to build our stamina and write more lengthy and detailed sentences.
In Science, we are finishing up animal life cycles and I expect to be done within the next week or so. Unfortunately, we weren't able to observe an animal life cycle in the classroom but we will hopefully be able to get some caterpillars this spring so we can see them turn into butterflies! We will be beginning our hearing and sound unit which will include some great, hand-on and building activities!
Finally, in Social Studies, we will be working on the traditions and celebrations of India, Tunisia, Ukraine and Peru. The students will be taking a look at Diwali next week.
