(North Atlantic Treaty Organization) An intergovernmental military based on the north Atlantic treaty which was signed on April 4, 1949
Detail:
Cause: NATO, which was formed from the North Atlantic Treaty, came about for the sole reason of alliance. All member nations or states included in the organization claim protection from the other states and also promise to provide protection in case of war. CHICHIS BB
Characteristics: At the time of formation, only 12 countries including canada and the United States were members of NATO.
- The combined military spending of all NATO members constitutes over 70% of the world's defense spending. The United States alone accounts for 43% of the total military spending of the world and the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy account for 15%
Significance: NATO today and has always been intended to protect North America & all European countries. It is also to help prevent attack on the US.
