Inclement Weather during Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL)
Decisions to close school due to inclement weather will continue to be made based on safety and access to learning/school site. While students are all in CDL or enrolled in the WLWV K12 Online Program (WKOP), there is a strong likelihood that school could remain “open” and students can continue learning at home during inclement weather such as snow or ice. When inclement weather includes heavy winds or power outages that affect internet access, there may be a reason to delay or close school depending on the impact and access to online learning.
If the school district closes due to inclement weather, any on-site classes or activities would also be canceled. This includes Limited In-Person Instruction (LII) and co-curricular or evening activities. Any delays or closures will apply to both students in CDL and the WLWV K12 Online Program.
The district will continue to provide communication about the status of school (delay or closure) through FlashAlert and alerts on the district website. We encourage families to sign up for FlashAlert early, and families can always check the district website for the latest information.

Bolton Primary Students Create Land Acknowledgment Statement
This past month, six Bolton Primary students worked together to create a Land Acknowledgement statement to be read before West Linn-Wilsonville School Board Meetings and District Events.
Students in Teacher Amy Sebastian’s fourth grade class set out this fall to research the Native American tribes who originally occupied the land that West Linn-Wilsonville schools are now built on. Students include Dejon Allen, Nike Johnson, Parker Gates, Delaney Smith, Zoe Cutler, and Mila Morozov.
“As we learn about the Native American people that used to live in our area, we learn about the importance of remembering and recognizing that this was their land,” students wrote in their final project. “We honor the ancestral land that we built our homes and schools on. We do this because Native Americans respected nature.
“They thought everything had a spirit and the land was an important part of their lives. Making a land acknowledgement shows respect for the people who took care of the land for so long. We should remember and honor them for how they cared for the land.”
The land acknowledgement that students created recognizes the Wallamut and Kalapuya Native peoples as well as the Confederated Tribes of the Grande Ronde. The acknowledgement can be read in its entirety below.
West Linn and Wilsonville are located near the Willamette and Tualatin Rivers in the Willamette Valley.
We acknowledge that our schools are built on the land of the Wallamut and Kalapuya Native peoples and now the Confederated Tribes of the Grande Ronde. This is a place where those tribes fished, hunted and lived.
It is our responsibility to honor the land like the Native Americans did. We need to remember that Native Americans took care of the land that we are standing on right now and it’s now our obligation to listen to the Confederated Tribes of the Grande Ronde whose members still live and work here. We should include them in decisions about how we use the land and take care of it.
