Friday Notes

Dare to be Different!

Blog: A Blur

That week was a blur!! So fast, in fact, that I have nothing to write about........BUT I have plenty to be proud of:

-Everyone was so flexible on eclipse day. Good thing we have 7 years to plan for the next one.....

-The Genius Hour projects I reviewed were nothing short of unbelievable. Our teachers are awesome!

-At my District Tech Meeting yesterday, Mark commented on how far along our building is in terms of Canvas implementation!

-We had a record turnout at All Pro Dads this morning!

-The emails coming from our committees are outstanding. The student and teacher experience here at East will benefit because of it!

That is only a small portion of this week.......this is a pretty awesome place when you sit back and reflect. Pat yourself on the deserve it!

Reminder! First Period Tardies

Just a reminder that students tardy to 1st should be marked absent by the classroom teacher and sent to the media center. We will log them in as tardy and change the attendance code in IC.

Instructional/Technology Audit

The Instructional/Technology audit is required by the IDOE as part of the Innovation Planning Grant. It is designed to achieve an outside perspective on the implementation and integration of technology into the classroom. It answers questions such as ‘How are teachers utilizing technology in the classroom?’, ‘What is the vision of technology integration in the district?’, ‘Is the vision communicated and shared with all stakeholders?’, ‘Is the integration of technology happening at a surface or deep level?’ These and other questions help the audit team to make recommendations related to professional learning for staff. The audit identifies strengths and challenges of the technology integration. The strengths can then be celebrated and the challenges addressed through a comprehensive Professional Learning Plan.

The auditors are Duke Lines and Laurie Ferry from CIESC. Some buildings may have both of them or just one of them.

Solar Eclipse 2017

Thanks to everyone for making Monday a memorable experience for our students!

Just a reminder to give your $25 (for Jeans, First Friday, and Monday treats) to Nikki. The Social Committee thanks you!

Short evaluations will begin next week. If you have any questions let one of the administrators know.

Goal and Growth information will need to be entered into PIVOT by September 1. Information on goal and growth plans can be found in the Teacher Evaluation Handbook on pages 11-14. Our building goals remain 90% ISTEP and less than 10% D-F rate.

Still stuck? You can schedule me to come to your room during PREP on any day to assist. Just click on the Calendly link below and pick a meeting time. After you submit we will both be sent Outlook invites.

Some folks have asked what our overall goal is for Canvas this year. I have included the district SMART goals for Canvas below. With any new innovation there will always be a little bit of "implementation anxiety." That is okay. Let me help you. Let Mark help you. Let you colleagues help you. We will get this done together.

PRIDE Update

Our first PRIDE shuffle occurred today. Here is the data:

Students with...

0 D/F - 827

1 D/F - 223

2 D/F - 116

3 D/F - 59

4 D/F - 32

D/F rate - 35%

It is early and many of us only have one assessment in the grade book, but we need to persistent with our students and parents about getting work in. Simply capturing our single D/F students would put our D/F rate at 17%. We got this!

Homework Document

Thanks for your efforts on the homework document. Your department leaders will be following up with you to ensure that this tool is available EVERY night for our parents. We want them to be responsible for their child's learning. Let's give them the tools!

The high ability identification process is outlined here. This process applies to current 6th and 7th grade students; with placement decisions for the 18-19 school year. Recommendations can be made from now until January 12th. If you have questions, please see Kyle or Sarah.

21st Century Scholars at Parent Teacher Conferences

There will be a representative from 21st Century Scholars with us on the evening of Parent Teacher Conferences, from 2:30pm-5:30pm. This is a great opportunity for parents of our 7th and 8th graders to get signed up for the program! As you contact parents about conferences, please let them know about this wonderful opportunity in Computer Lab 605! Here is a list of items parents will need to get enrolled in 21st Century Scholars.
