Life Space Crisis Intervention
Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI) is a set of verbal intervention strategies to help staff prevent, defuse, and process "crisis" situations in schools involving dysfunctional thinking and student misbehavior, and to assist students in developing more usable self-management skills. This is a 5-day event that consists of 2 parts, with the first 2 days covering basic principles and the final 3 days adding depth, interactive experience, and a competency portion. To receive SCECH & SW credits as well as certification in LSCI participants must complete parts 1 & 2 in their entirety.
Part 1 online portion is self-paced and is estimated to take approximately 7.5 hours to complete. Participants must complete Part 1 and the associated exam PRIOR to the classroom-based portion. Verification of completion of Part 1 will be issued to the participant and will need to be provided as proof of completion before commencing to Part 2. Part 2 will be conducted digitally/online and will be in real-time (synchronous learning). Participants will need to have appropriate technology (e.g. a computer/laptop/tablet) to involve with Parts 1 & 2.
Part 1 online portion (self-paced): begins 7/12/21 through 7/26/21
Part 2 real-time online portion (synchronous learning) (8:30am-3:00pm daily): August 3, 4, and 5, 2021
COST: No charge
A $450 stipend is available to active Oakland Public School Special Educators upon completion of this series.
