Did I do my BEST?!! - Please continue to encourage your child to do their best and give thoughtful answers! I can already see a BIG difference! I love that we are taking pride in our work!
Valentine's Day - We will celebrate Thursday, February 11, 2016. Students will exchange cards and do some in class activities. Please bring enough for everyone and refrain from treats! Thanks!
Celebrity of the Week - None
What are we Learning?
Reading - This week we will complete our Fiction Reading Assessment. We will begin our next unit which is in the Social Studies Content Area. Students will learn how to find evidence to support the Essential Question: "What are the Characteristics of a Good Citizen?"
Phonics/Spelling - Unit 10: Long A spelled ai, ay.
Trick Words (Unit 10): great, America, country, school, away, thought
Writing - We hope to finish all of our Opinion Writing this week. Be sure to check out our class book of "Book Reviews" when you come for conferences. In preparation of our next writing unit on Poetry, we will complete a quick immersion unit in Poetry. Students will read and reflect on poems that they read and hear.
Math - Before we start our next unit, we will briefly review money. Students will solve money word problems, continue to count money, and possibly make change.
Please continue to work of math facts at home. Math playground is a great online resource for games! (www.mathplayground.com). There are also many free apps to practice math facts.
Social Studies- Our Social Studies focus is that of Citizenship and Government. This week students will learn about our Presidents and how we vote to elect our community leaders. We will continue our Black History research projects.
