Office Hours (math help after school)
Changed to Thursday this week due to a meeting on Monday
*** This week I will have office hours on Thursday from 3:15-4:00.
Monday's 3:15-4:00 in room 403 with Ms. Watkins
Wednesday's 3:15-4:00 in room 401 with Miss Brockman.
This is a time when students may come in and begin their homework, work on reassessment, or just receive additional help with math. All middle school students are welcome to come to either or both office hours.
Expectations:
- Work on math material first.
- Keep voices down so that everyone can focus on their own material.
- If a student wants or needs a snack, it must be nut free.
Middle School Math Reassessment Policy
6th Grade Math
This week we began working with inequalities. On Monday the focus was writing and graphing inequalities. On Tuesday and Wednesday students learned how to solve one step inequalities and graph the solution. We did not have class on Thursday because students were on a field trip during math. On Friday students learned how to solve percent problems with equations.
Next week we will review for the test on Thursday. Monday I will return the quiz and go over the solutions. Tuesdays focus will be solving inequalities. Wednesday will be mixed review. On Thursday students will take the chapter 4 test. Friday due to the shorter day and the Christmas party we will not have class.
**** To all 6A parents: on Thursday (the day of the test) 6A has a shortened class period due to practice for the Christmas music program. Students that do not finish their test by the time we have to leave for practice will call home at lunch and ask to be picked up a little late (around 3:30 or 3:45) so that they can finish their test. Please let me know if you have any conflict or concerns about this.
There have been several times that I assign watching a video as part of the homework. This will continue throughout the year. I have talked with the class about the importance of watching the video and taking notes. If your child is having trouble accessing the video please arrange for them to come to school right at 7:40 so that they can watch it in my room on one of the school computers.
8th Grade Math
This week began with the chapter 3 test. On Tuesday I reviewed writing and graphing inequalities. Toward the end of class I introduced the concept of equivalent inequalities and the addition property of inequality. On Wednesday students practiced solving one and two step inequalities. Thursday the focus turned to solving multi-step inequalities. Friday the class began with review for the quiz on Monday (solving multi-step inequalities) and then students worked on writing, graphing, and solving compound inequalities.
Next week students will take a partner quiz on multi-step inequalities. Tuesday and Wednesday I will teach about absolute value equations and inequalities. Thursday will be review and Friday students will take the chapter 4 test.
There will be several times that a video will be assigned as part or all of the homework for the rest of this year. If your child is having difficulty accessing or watching the videos please arrange for them to come to school right at 7:40 so that they can watch it in my room or in their homeroom on one of the school computers.
