Henry Happenings

Principal Message
Dear Henry Families,
It was great to see you at Curriculum Night last week. It just feels good to see everyone in the building! Please join us this Friday for Outdoor Family Movie Night The movie will begin approximately 7:15 PM, at dusk. Henry PTO has arranged for Enoch's Food Truck to be at Henry from 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM with movie snacks for purchase. Bring your family, lawn chairs and blankets to set up for a movie under the stars. Students will be voting this week on the movie that will be shown.
*The playground will be open before the movie begins, but closed for safety reasons, at dusk.*
Our first early release is this Wednesday at 2:00 PM. If your child has a dismissal change please contact the Henry office!
Kindergarten parents, if you still have a yard sign, and can arrange to return this week we would greatly appreciate it. Our future Bulldogs thank you! We will collect the signs through the drop off and pick up line if it is easier to return this way!
As always, if you have any questions please let me know.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jodi Oliver
Principal

Arrival/Dismissal Updates
Cars:
-Please pull your car along the cones in the circle loop. Please do not cut through the middle of the circle. We plan for cars to utilize all of that space and plan for that number of students to walk out.
-Work with your child so they can open/close the car door and know how to buckle up. If your child still needs assistance, please pull forward and pull over by the dumpsters to get out and help your child. When dropping off, children do not have to wait for an adult to open the door.
-Please make sure not to stop and block the crosswalk on Henry, or in the school parking lots.
- Slow down and make sure Mrs. Goyal is able to get the number inserted on your tag. She will give you a thumbs up if she was able to see it and enter. If you don’t have the tag, be ready with the 4 digit number or your id.
-When you pull into the car pick up line, pull your car to the right so buses can get in the lot.
Walkers:
-If Mr. Howard has the big group of walkers please wait with them, do not walk around the group with your child. Wait with the group until he crosses as we need to make sure all cars see the group crossing.
Thanks for your help to ensure everyone is kept safe during dismissal!

Birthday Party Invitations
Parents, if you are planning a birthday celebration for your child and want to send invitations to school to be distributed, please follow the guidelines listed here:
1. Invite the whole class
or
2. Invite all of one gender from the class
Thank you for your help with this!
Summer Reading
For students that participated in the Henry Summer Reading Program, completed reading forms are due by September 16. Please tally the total minutes read and include a parent signature verifying the number of minutes and book titles. Completed and signed forms should be returned to Mrs. Goyal in the library. We can't wait to see how many readers hit a homerun this summer!

Volunteer Opportunities
We hope you have gotten back in the swing of things this school year. We are so excited to be able to get back into Henry and do more things to help out. That also means there are more volunteer opportunities than there have been the past several years. Volunteers are a critical element at Henry and there is something for everyone. We have weekend activities, evening activities, and items during the day. There are items for people who like to organize and plan and items for those who just like to show up and do. Please take a minute to look and see what you would like to be involved with. https://forms.gle/WZvxa4BkzxN29qmf9 And thank you to those who have already jumped in and volunteered. Our first 2 events (Breakfast for the teachers and Welcome Breakfast) were organized by volunteers who hadn't been in that position before and they did it flawlessly. Don't hesitate to jump into a volunteer slot. Thank you in advance!
Steps to become a Volunteer can be found here - https://www.parkwayschools.net/domain/783 You need to take this step if you plan on going on any field trips with your child, volunteer with Reader In Me during the day, Help out in the Library, do 5th grade activities in the Spring, or do any other activities that involve contact with students when you are unsupervised by teachers.
Student Activity Fees-Rycor Payment System
Each student at Henry Elementary will be charged an activity fee for items such as planners and field trips. Your child's classroom teacher will explain what is included specific to the grade level. Please see the directions below to access the online payment system.
* Log into your Infinite Campus Parent Portal (if you need assistance with this, please contact the help desk at 314-415-8181, option 2 or via email at ic-parenthelp@parkwayschools.net )
* Select "More"
* Select "Online Payments"
* If you have more than one student in Parkway, please select your student's name (tab next to where it says "Summary")
* You will then see any fees assigned to your student. You may add items to your cart and proceed to pay as preferred.
* At the bottom of the page you will see a button "Adopt a Student for Activity Fees." If you would like to donate, please click on it, complete the form, add the amount you would like to donate, then click add to cart. You will then be prompted to pay online as well.
NOTE: If you are using an Apple product, please use either Chrome or Firefox when logging in to your account. Also, if you are using your mobile phone, please turn your phone to landscape mode so you can see the full screen properly.
School Chromebook Reminders
As we begin the school year, please take a moment to review the following policies and procedures regarding your student’s Parkway issued Chromebook.
Chromebooks are the property of the Parkway School District and should be kept in the same condition as when originally assigned to the student. Students should not remove their protective Gumdrop case from their Chromebook for any reason. The case is designed to prevent severe damage, so it’s very important that the device remains in its case. Although these devices are assigned to students, they remain the property of the Parkway School District and should NOT be personalized with stickers, decals, drawings, etc.
Parkway is changing the way we support our Chromebook fleet. Parents will no longer register for insurance. Instead, Parkway will be moving to a per-incident, fines-based model for repairs related to Chromebook damage. These fines will only apply to the Chromebooks that will be traveling with the students, grades 3-12. Students in grades K-2 will leave their devices at school unless otherwise directed by school administration. Chromebook fines will be assessed for damage that is not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty (i.e. broken screens, damaged keyboards, broken/missing case, missing/damaged charger, etc.). Rycor, Parkway’s online payment processing system, will be used to record and collect all Chromebook related fines.
The amount of the fine will vary depending on the total cost of the parts needed to repair the Chromebook.
Minor repairs ($25 fine) - Repairs that require parts valued under $200
Major repairs ($50 fine) - Repairs that require parts valued over $200
