Chester Elementary School
November 7, 2022. A year of significance!
Each month we highlight a different, positive character trait to teach to our students. For the month of November we are actually focusing on two, and the timing couldn't be better: the traits are respect and gratitude. What is November 11? Veteran's Day! This is a time to honor the men and women who have served in the U.S. armed forces on the anniversary of the end of World War I. If you're a veteran and are reading this, thank you so very much for your service. At a time when there is so much division in our country, perhaps we can agree to unite in showing our respect and gratitude to those who have served and also to those who are serving, and protecting, our country.
I hope you enjoyed our short Fall season! Winter weather is surely here, with what could be a fair amount of precipitation coming our way next week. Please know that if students are going to play in the snow, they need to be wearing snow boots, snow pants and a jacket. Consider also including a beanie in your child's backpack for the colder days. We will be outside in unless it's raining!
Mountain Kid Messenger
Click here (or on the trout) for the latest edition of the Mountain Messenger! If you didn't check out last month's edition, you missed out! Not only is this an opportunity to see what your child is learning about outdoor education, but you'll learn some great things as well that the whole family can share and enjoy as we make the most of the amazing area in which we live. Published by our outdoor education specialist extraordinaire, Mr. Rob Wade, is packed full of great information for all ages.
This is a great photo of one of our Kindergarten students making the most of the first snow of the season as she attempts to catch in her mouth the snow falling off of the Fall leaves, evidence that the simple things in life often bring the most joy. We just need to sometimes see it through the eyes of a child.
More construction progress: we're getting closer!

Spotlight: Mary Juska
Mary Juska, originally from Roseville, has served as the Chester Elementary School librarian since 2010. A graduate of Humboldt State, with a degree in Forestry and Environmental Ethics, Ms. Mary loves sharing her love of nature and literature with students as they peruse the variety of books in the CES library.
Ms. Mary enjoys learning about each child’s unique interest and directing them towards books that further their knowledge, interest, and passion. She loves how students think and appreciates the diversity that each child brings to CES. Ms. Mary also savors the old walls of our historic school, where the seasoned walls foster amazing citizens who care about their local community.
In her free time, Ms. Mary can be found crafting or with a pair of binoculars in her hand spying on birds. Ms. Mary would love to visit Scotland and Ireland someday to enjoy the beautiful scenery and, of course, study their native birds.
