GISH GLIMPSE

I Behave As Though This Is The Day I Will Be Remembered For.

Principal's Message - January 2022

Welcome to December. For those who celebrate Christmas, we want to wish you a sincere MERRY CHRISTMAS! For all others, we offer an equally sincere HAPPY HOLIDAYS, and wish absolutely EVERYONE a safe and prosperous HAPPY NEW YEAR! We have had a very productive four months! We are happy to report that we’ve continued to have VERY FEW positive cases of COVID-19 at Gish School (approx. 17) since this school year started. We are happy to report that we have had only one case this week, and no classes are isolating at Gish School.

Junior high volleyball has ended and we are very proud of all of our athletes. Our Senior Boys’ team made it to the St. Albert Physical Education Council (SAPEC) City Finals, and we chartered a bus to bring many energetic fans to the Morinville Recreation Centre. Our Warriors put up a valiant effort and were actually leading 2 sets to 1, with a lead in the fourth set. Unfortunately, the Gators from Lorne Akins won a very close fifth set. Once again, we are VERY proud of our effort and we hold our heads high. Thanks to all the fans, and special thanks to all of the junior and senior coaches!

Junior high basketball has started, and we’ve already experienced some success at our first tournament that occurred on December 10 & 11. We are looking forward to an enjoyable season. Thanks to all students who tried out for the teams, and thank you to those successful athletes who are representing Gish School on the WARRIORS basketball teams. We really appreciate our teacher coaches who’ve stepped up to be involved with our students.

Now, during the Christmas Break, and forever after, please read with your children! Research proves time and again that the single best way to improve student success in ALL subjects is simply by READING. Both fiction and non-fiction material are important! Studying and reviewing specific curriculum is also necessary, but general reading provides so many advantages. Ask them questions such as, “why do you think…?” or “what do you think will happen next?” PLEASE support your child(ren)’s learning by reading with them, especially at bed time!

We sure appreciate everything that individual students and families are doing to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please continue to wear masks, sanitize, and keep your distance. It is very important to remember that in order to come to school, ALL attendees must be healthy and symptom-free.

Leadership opportunities continue to be incorporated into activities at Gish School. We believe that every Gish citizen is a leader! Thanks to our hardworking student and staff leadership teams. Thank you for the support and contributions to the Kinsmen/Kinette’s. They were absolutely overwhelmed by our donations. We are proud to report that we received over $500 in monetary and gift card donations, and over three truckloads of food! Keep up the outstanding effort. Gish students, families, and staff are ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING!

We continue to host nearly 850 students at Gish School, and take pride in offering a very safe and caring educational environment for students. We are already planning for next year at all grades – especially Kindergarten! Please tell your friends and neighbours about all the benefits of E. S. Gish Elementary/Junior High School. Thank-you for your continued support.
