Lifetouch Photography is excited to announce the launch of a new way to access photos online.

Go to our website at www.mylifetouch.ca, click on Student ID and follow the detailed instructions to view and order photos.
If you have any questions on this ordering process, please call the Lifetouch Customer Care Line at 1.866.457.8212 or access the live chat on our website, www.mylifetouch.ca

Grade 7-9 Report Card and Student-led Conference
October 16, 2023
Dear Parents,
As many of you are aware, last year, we at J.C. Charyk underwent changes to our reporting process in Elementary, moving to an outcomes based reporting checklist along with student-led conferences in place of a traditional report card and parent-teacher interviews. At this point in time, the next step to continue supporting learning and growing as a school is to make changes to our reporting process in Junior High, bringing it in line with what was started in Elementary last year.
In doing this, we have generated a sample of what we view as a potential outcomes based report card, which is attached with this letter. The goal of this report card is to allow our students and parents to understand exactly how each student is achieving in relation to the programs of study that they are learning. There is strong evidence that outcomes based reporting is a more suitable indicator of student achievement than traditional assessment practices, and it is our hope that these practices will help students to better understand their strengths and areas for growth as they reflect on their learning.
Along with a new report card, we are planning to host two consecutive nights of parent-teacher interviews for Grades 7-9 after report cards have gone home in November and April, rather than the current format of pre and post report card interviews. The first night of these interviews will be structured as an “open house” where students will present a portfolio of their learning to their parents. These portfolios are based on the work we have been doing as a school surrounding Leader in Me, and will detail their goals and dreams, what they are doing to achieve them, samples of work from their classes that they are proud of or demonstrate growth as a learner, and reflections on where they are in their academic journey. Teachers would be available during the open house to comment on student work or answer parent questions. The second night of interviews would be for a more traditional parent-teacher interview by appointment to address any concerns that arose during the open house or school term.
The sample report card attached has been developed through several conversations as a school staff while also consulting what is being done in other school divisions in terms of outcomes based assessment. At this time, we would like feedback from you, the parents, on these proposed changes to our reporting process. We ask that you please complete the attached survey so we are able to determine how to shape this process to best serve our school community. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out.
Yours in education,
Corry Raugust - Principal
Ryan Wales - Vice Principal
Kelly Lewis - Vice Principal
National Child Abuse Prevention Month
October is National Child Abuse Prevention Month in Canada and Luna is raising awareness about child abuse and the important role communities play in keeping children and youth safe. Child and Youth Advocacy Centres are safe places dedicated to providing children, youth and their families with the necessary support and resources they need throughout the disclosure, investigation and judicial process, and along their healing journeys. Since opening our doors a decade ago, Luna has supported over 15,000 young people and their families, and that number continues to grow each year.
But we cannot do this alone.
In honour of Child Abuse Prevention Month, we invite you to join us on Tuesday, October 24th to #GoBlueAB! By wearing blue, we can raise more awareness about the prevalence of child abuse in our communities and how we can take action to prevent it. It will also serve as a symbol of solidarity with the thousands of children, youth and families in Alberta who have been impacted by abuse. We are reaching out to our community to encourage everyone to participate in #GoBlueAB. All you have to do is encourage your class and colleagues to wear blue on October 24th and then take a photo and share it on your social media channels. Don’t forget to tag us @lunacentreyyc and use the hashtag #GoBlueAB so we can share your photos throughout the day!
Let's create a wave of blue across Alberta to show our support for the children and youth who need it most.
