***NEW - Marching Band Physicals***
Band physicals for next year.
Just to put on your radar for next year.
The state has wisely made a new policy that all students who participate in Athletic Musical programs will be required to have a physical on file.
Here is the official statement and well-crafted FAQ from the state that can help answer some of your questions of how this process will be incorporated:
Color Guard
Both winter guard ensembles had a tremendous rehearsal this past Saturday. The groups' productions are coming along quite nicely, and we are in for another fun and memorable season! Contest officially began this weekend at Frisco Centennial and Arlington Lamar; only 10 days until we perform for you, 11 days for the community, and 13 days for an adjudication panel!
With that being said, early competition season is, well, early! Both ensembles can expect to keep evolving, changing, and recreating their products. This is a marathon, not a sprint! However, I am so proud of where the shows are at, and I'm thrilled at what possibilities lie within the end game. As always, my sincerest appreciation and admiration goes out to our cast members.

This is our "calm before the storm" week. Students, please stay on top of your academic responsibilities as we near the progress report period. Please note that if you failed any course at the end of the Fall Semester, you are currently ineligible - you must be passing every course on the progress report to regain eligibility. For those who continue to remain ineligible, you are not permitted to perform at Frisco Flag Night, NTCA Wakeland, or WGI Dallas.
JV Parents: Our cast members decided to have our Tuesday rehearsal at Wakeland High School instead of Griffin. This will better accommodate those students attending the mandatory Dual Credit meeting that evening.
Varsity Parents: I have asked four students for their time this Saturday, January 26th from 11am to 2pm. During this time, we will be choreographing the 5th Variation. Selected students' families received email communication from me - please let me know if your student is unable to attend so that I may seek out a substitute.
There is a Band and Guard Disney Trip meeting this Friday, January 25th at WHS from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. We are requiring the attending student and one parent / guardian representative to be in attendance.
Itineraries for Frisco Flag Night, NTCA Wakeland, and WGI Dallas will be distributed through email early this week. I will post the general itinerary on the band calendar.
I have updated the staff lesson schedule through February. Please access the WHS Color Guard website to view sign-ups.
Looking ahead, next week is incredibly busy! Both ensembles maintain their rehearsal schedule on Monday and Tuesday; JV will join the Varsity on Wednesday evening for a rehearsal, followed by a performance for our families. Thursday, students will travel to Memorial High School to perform alongside the other winter guard programs at Frisco Flag Night. Friday evening will be the NTCA Wakeland Volunteer Meeting (All) and Setup (Students). Then Saturday, the marathon continues with Contest Hosting and Performances!
To clarify, your students will receive meals before Frisco Flag Night and during the NTCA Wakeland event. All guard students will receive Volunteer / Community Service hours for their timeworking the competition (not during their breaks and performances).
Please note that there is a mandatory NTCA Wakeland Chaperone Meeting in the Cafeteria on Friday, February 1st at 6pm in the cafeteria. Please be expecting communication regarding your sign-ups, positions, and much more!
Thank you for your patience and support during this eventful time. As always, I am eager to see what the season has in store for us!
