Points of Pride (Week of Feb. 6)
Alief ISD Spotlights, Communications and Announcements
Alief ISD was selected for the Reading with a Rapper literacy initiative.
Superintendent Dr. Anthony Mays kicked off the initiative with Mayor Sylvester Turner, City Council Member Tiffany Thomas and others during a press conference.
Alief ISD CTE Welding students won accolades at the Jersey Village High School Falcon Weld It Up Welding Competition.
Hosted at Arclabs Welding School, Alief ISD high school students brought home 12 welding certifications and earned top honors in various categories, including sweeping the entire Level 3 category:
Level 2:
- 1st Place - Fernando Deloera (Elsik) - $9,500 in scholarships, one-week welding course with American Welding Academy, Arclabs Welding School Spring Educational Event, dive coin to do underwater welding this summer
- 3rd Place - Noe Fernandez (Taylor) - $1,500 in scholarships
Level 3:
- 1st Place - Jacob Rodriguez (Hastings) - $11,500 in scholarships, one-week welding course with American Welding Academy, Arclabs Welding School Spring Educational Event, dive coin to do underwater welding this summer
- 2nd Place - Michael Salgado (Hastings) - $3,000 in scholarships
- 3rd Place - Anthony Guido (Elsik) - $1,000 in scholarships
Each participating senior received $2,000 in scholarships. In total, Alief ISD students earned $44,500 in scholarships.
Miller Intermediate School won first place at a preliminary step show competition.
The Men of Brilliance step team placed first in the World Step Association Preliminary Step Show Competition.
