Empowerment
By: Cole Edgerton
Introduction
The meaning of empowerment is to give authority or give power. Empowerment is saying that you can do it.
"Malala’s shooters arrested" by Newsela staff
“The City of Ember” by Jeanne DuPrau
“All About that Bass” by Meghan Trainor
“Secrets” by Mary Lambert
“Bob the Builder"
These sources are the ones that will be talked about.
All About that Bass (Meghan Trainor)
“No, I'm just playing I know you think you're fat,
But I'm here to tell you that,
Every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top
Yeah, my momma she told me don't worry about your size." That is some of the lyrics All About that Bass By Meghan Trainor. In this song it empowers people who aren't like other people or aren't the same size as other people to just live life the way they want. She’s telling no matter what your size that you're just like everyone else. From the song lyrics people get the message that they live their life the way they want to live their live. In simpler words Meghan Trainor is telling people to ignore the haters because they judge because they’re not like them.Malala's Shooters Arrested
Malala wants women all around the world to have the right to have education. That is empowering because she doesn’t give up. She got shot in the head by Talibans because she was standing up for what she believes in. But she survived and fights for women's education still. She keeps on saying to herself and for women around the world that they deserve education just like men around the world.
The City of Ember
Lina Mayfleet
Lina in the City of Ember is very empowering. One way she shows empowerment is that she won't give up from finding what that letter says and finding an exit to Ember to find the new world. This action shows empowerment because she is telling herself not to give up. She has to find out what the letter says and she has to find to find the exit or egress to Ember.
Doon Harrow
Doon is very very empowering in the City of Ember. He is the
most empowering character in this book in my opinion. But Doon set out as soon as she disappeared. Using his map, he found his way back to the main tunnel, then hurried to the east end.He wasn't going to wait for special permission to see the generator. That was just one of the actions Doon shows that is empowering. This shows empowerment because from the start he wanted a job that would be useful like the pipeworks. He wanted a job to help Ember because he thought with his engineering skills that he would be able to save Ember and be their hero. He wanted a shining moment so his dad could feel proud in his son and say “That’s my son”. He need to fix the generator, he needs to help Ember, he just NEEDS to.Bob the Builder
Bob the Builder
Can we fix it?
Bob the Builder
Yes, we can!
Secrets (Mary Lambert)
They tell us from the time we're young
To hide the things that we don't like about ourselves
Inside ourselves
I know I'm not the only one who spent so long attempting to be someone else
Well I'm over it. Empowerment is shown everywhere even in song like in this song. This is empowering just like All About that Bass because it’s saying that no matter who you are, what you like or anything else to embrace it and ignore the critics and live the life you want. Conclusion
People become empowered by other people and from themselves by telling themselves that they can do it. Empowerment is important because people need to know not to give up on their dreams because they’re all possible. That’s why empowerment is important because people believe in their dreams and more achievements happen in the world and the world becomes more successful with empowerment.
