A letter from the coaches: Kids Mercedes Marathon
Dear Parents,
Over the next few months our school will be training for the 2023 Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama Kids Mercedes Marathon. The Kids Mercedes Marathon is an innovative, endurance building running/walking program for K-5th graders. Our goal is to assist your child in building endurance, setting and accomplishing long-term fitness goals, and enhancing self-esteem while teaching valuable lessons about making health and fitness a regular part of his/her life. Children will run the distance of a full marathon (26.2 miles) over the course of the five-month program. Students will run in PE on Fridays as part of our “Fitness Friday” stations. Since every child participates in “Fitness Friday” in our PE class, then everyone qualifies to run the last mile of the 26.2 miles on the Marathon Day. (Participation in the Marathon is totally optional of course.) As each child completes the final mile on the actual marathon course on Saturday, February 11, 2023, he/she will receive a Blue Cross and BlueShield of Alabama Kids Mercedes Marathon Finisher’s Medal, a miniature version of the Mercedes Marathon Finisher’s Medal. To make it easier for everyone involved, we will keep a master log of the miles run to turn in to the Marathon office once we reach 25.2 miles. Therefore, you do not have to do any logging of miles at home. We will do it in PE.
If you choose to allow your child to participate in the marathon just click the button below. We will not be registering any children at school. Registration MUST be completed online by November 15th at $25 per child. After November 15th the price goes up to $40. For your added convenience the Paine PE staff will pick up the race packets in January and will distribute them at school.
If you have any questions, or would like additional assistance or information, please do not hesitate to contact the marathon office at (205) 870-7771 or at kids@mercedesmarathon.com .
Thank you for all your support!

EnRich to begin this week for all 2nd-5th grade students!
We will begin a 6-week session of enrichment (known as EnRICh) for students in Grades 2-5 this Thursday. Each Thursday for the next 6 weeks students will attend their selected session from 1:00-1:50. These are STREAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Math) focused cross-curricular experiences. Our teachers are facilitating these sessions based on their areas of interest.
Students were asked to select the top 3 experiences they were interested in. We were able to place each student in one of their top 3. We will have another session 2nd semester, so they will be able to participate in a different one at that time.
Our learning experiences for this semester include:
- A BEEutiful Parade-BeeBots (2nd & 3rd)
- American Heroes (2nd)
