Ross' Writing, Science, & SS
4th Grade - December 14, 2015
Writing
Opinion writing is going well. I enjoy reading the variety of topics and claims that the students are writing about. They are as varied as their personalities which makes them super fun to read and discuss.
The drafts are complete, so our work this week will be on revising their work. Our focus will be on adding transitions and opposing views to add strength to the claim.
When you have a minute, ask your student what their opinion piece is about and challenge her/him to support their claim with reasons, evidence and examples.
THANKS FOR ALL THE MINI SOCIETY SUPPORT!!
Thank you so much for all the support you have given the Mini Society Warehouse by sending in classroom donations and by providing supplies for your child's business. Both groups are incredibly creative and are learning some great lessons about supply and demand and working with other people. I think Bell Prairie has some budding entrepenuers in the making!!
Polar Express Day - Thursday, December 17
Bell Prairie's annual Polar Express Day will be this Thursday. On that day, students may wear pajamas. We do ask that they wear tennis shoes (no slippers) and no robes. Appropriate wear for 4th graders would be pj bottoms and a regular t-shirt. Also, blankets and pillows are not needed for this activity.
Winter Party
Bell Prairie's Winter Party will be this Friday, December 18 at 9:30. A big thanks to all of the parents who are helping out by sending in supplies or running the party. An extra shout-out goes to Deb Tucker for stepping in to be our coordinator.
EARLY DISMISSAL, FRIDAY, DECEMBER 18
School will dismiss early this Friday. Students will eat an early lunch here and then head home at 12:30 to begin their Winter Break. School resumes on Monday, January 4. Enjoy the extra time with your family and friends. I know I will!
SCIENCE WILL BEGIN AGAIN IN JANUARY WITH A MAGNETISM AND ELECTRICITY UNIT OF STUDY
Social Studies - Economics
This week, our Economics unit ends. Students have learned about scarcity, opportunity cost, and supply and demand. They have also experienced how a economic society works through Mini Society. Tuesday, they will have the opportunity to have an International Market Day with another 4th grade class and Wednesday will be their last selling Market Day. They will be hosting another 4th grade class as well as buying and selling to their own class.
