Weekly Update 07/27-07/31

Letter from MEB

Happy Wednesday!

Smekens is coming! Smekens is coming! Please be looking for an announcement regarding Smekens training August 4-6 in the next newsletter. In order to accommodate a large number of staff (more than the allowable 50) we will be providing Smekens training virtually.

We understand some of you may have experienced a delay in getting paid for open gyms. If you submitted an exit ticket for 6/16, you should have gotten paid on the 3rd of July. If you submitted an exit ticket for June 25 and July 2nd, you should have gotten paid on the 17th of July. Open gym payments for dates occurring after July 2nd will be coming soon. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to expedite the process.

You can help us move the process along even faster by completing the exit tickets the same day as an open gym. From now on, we will process stipends within 24 hours of open gyms. If you do not complete the exit ticket on the same day as the open gym, your payment will be delayed. Thanks for your patience as we work through all of these new experiences.

SMEKENS

August 4

Hello Danville teachers,

I am so pleased to know that you will be joining me on August 4th for our PD on “Launching the 6 Traits Writer’s Workshop”. It will be a great day!

Since we will be doing this PD virtually, I am sending the ZOOM link (below) that you will need. Our time together will be from 9:00 – 2:00 with a lunch break from 12:00 – 12:30.

cgordon@smekenseducation.com is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Passcode: 049603

Also, I am attaching the handout that we will be using to this email as well (see attached). This is what we will follow throughout the day. If you have the “Launching the Writer’s Workshop” book from your school then please bring that also. It looks like this:

Finally, we will be making plans – day by day plans. That will feel good once we are finished So please bring some paper, maybe even a calendar of your first month of school to work with. I am attaching 2 calendars that you could use as well. One is a printable PDF and one is digital Word version to type into. Many teachers like to use the small post-its when planning and so that is something you could have handy, if you like.

I think this is everything! Please contact me with any questions and have a great end to your week.

All the best,

Courtney

August 6

Hello Danville teachers,

I am happy to say that I will still have the opportunity to work with you during your Open Gym time, it is just going to look a little different – like a lot of things these days

Since this will be a virtual day for us, I will be working with you virtually via individual/ group ZOOM calls. I will be available all day on August 6th from 9:00 – 3:00 and I will have ALL of my materials with me since I will be working from my office. My purpose is to be able to help you with any of your literacy needs. We can discuss reading, writing, vocabulary – you name it. This is a great time to be able to get some direction and ideas for your specific needs.

There will be 2 ways to set up a ZOOM call with me:

  1. Contact me ahead of time (at cgordon@smekenseducation.com) and book a time for the day or 8/6.
  2. Contact me on the day of 8/6 (at cgordon@smekenseducation.com) and let me know that you would like to set up a time that day.

If you would prefer NOT to meet over ZOOM then I can always do a phone call or we can correspond over email as well.

This should explain everything but contact me with any questions or confusions.

Enjoy your summer!

Courtney

Please be patient and call back between the hours of 8am – 4pm, or put in a Help Desk ticket. We are doing our very best to help everyone.
