***COVID Pool Testing***

Did you miss this deadline? You can still submit the form below and be included in our next round of COVID pool testing?

COVID-19 testing will begin at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School on Monday May 10, 2021 and happen each Monday.

We must all do our part to prevent the transmission of the COVID-19 virus in our schools. This includes participating in school-provided COVID-19 testing to identify cases where the student or staff member may not be showing symptoms. MCPS families were notified about this new effort in February and March. Tests will be provided for all students and staff on a weekly basis. Each swab will be placed in a common tube for that classroom or group and sent to a central testing laboratory. The test detects whether the virus that causes COVID-19 is present in that pooled sample. Schools will receive results within 2-3 days and families will be notified of next steps if there is a positive case in the classroom or pool. Please read additional information here.

You must sign the following consent form to give permission for your child to participate. You can send in the consent form by doing one of the following:

  1. You can print the form, sign and have your child return to school by Friday of each week to be included in the next week's collection pool.
  2. You can print the form, sign and take a picture of the consent form and email a copy to Ms. Audrey Liebeskind at Audrey_J_Liebeskind@mcpsmd.org.
  3. You may use the following link https://kami.app/P26-gvU-28p to automatically make a copy and sign using Kami. You can save the document and then email the consent form to Ms. Audrey Liebeskind at Audrey_J_Liebeskind@mcpsmd.org.

If you do not complete the consent form, your child will not be able to participate in testing.

WIDA ACCESS Testing

Every year, students receiving ESOL services are required to take the WIDA ACCESS placement test for English Language Learners (ELLs)assessment to measure English language proficiency. During the 2020-2021 school year, the state has determined that the test will be optional for school systems. MCPS will administer the test in person to current ESOL students in Grade 5 and Grade 8 who are designated as English Language Proficiency level (ELP) 4 in our records.

The district recognizes that parents of students receiving ESOL services that do not have the ELP level of 4 and/or are not in Grades 5 and 8 may want their students to take the WIDA ACCESS for ELLs assessment this school year. Parents have the right to request that their child be assessed and may make that request by contacting your child’s school. Parents have until May 14 to request that their child take the assessment. If you wish to have your child take the WIDA assessment, please reach out to Mr. Nelson, assistant principal, Ms. Campbell, ESOL resource teachers, or your child’s counselor.

National Honor Society SAT/ACT Tutoring

We have exciting news: in TAP we are now offering SAT/ACT tutoring and college guidance from B-CC seniors to juniors beginning their college application process. After coordinating with Ms. Heald, NHS tutors can now serve at TAP (in breakout rooms) either Tuesday, or Thursday from 4:30-5:30pm for interested juniors. If you are a senior with a test prep book, please bring it to tutor! We hope this will be an opportunity for juniors to receive guidance from their peers and for seniors to commit themselves to service. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me/Ms. Heald and please pass along the information about this opportunity to other B-CC juniors! (For senior tutors, 1 hour of service=1 NHS or SSL hour).
