FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents
Despite the COVID restrictions at the moment I am extremely impressed with how the children have settled into their classrooms seamlessly over the last couple of weeks. Now that swimming lessons are finished, we will be able to get into more of a routine! Thank you to the many parents who have provided positive feedback on the Parent Teacher electronic information sessions, it is certainly something we will continue in the future. Your continued support of the classroom teachers and our school is always very much appreciated.
The 2022 Leadership Team consists of Mrs Margaret Williamson (Principal) and Mrs Loretta Hutcheson (Assistant Principal PK-2) and Mr Ryan von Bergheim (Assistant Principal Yr3-6). We are always available to meet with you at any time should you have any concerns or queries regarding your child’s education. We welcome back Father Cyprian, Parish Priest at Our Lady of the Mission and Father Francis, Assistant Parish Priest. We look forward to their spiritual guidance throughout the year.
At PCPS we are very blessed to have such a dedicated and professional staff who are totally committed to providing the very best education for the children as well as nurturing and caring for all children on a pastoral care level. Special welcome to our new staff members for 2022: Finance Offer - Ms Lloyd; Yr 3 Teacher - Mrs Bonny; Extemnsion Teacher - Mrs Bottega; Education Assistants – Ms Wansbrough, Mrs Maier; Mrs Burke; Mr Marcello; Mrs Chalmers.
We look forward to them sharing their special gifts and talents within our school community. On the holidays Ms Reggio and her husband had a baby. We welcome Joshua into the PCPS community!
Just a reminder that Merit Assemblies, at this point in time, have changed due to COVID restrictions. The Leadership Team will present the merit awards in the classroom and a photo will be sent home to parents.
The first P&F Icy Pole Day for the year was held today and proved very popular in this hot weather. Icy poles are sold to children from Years 1 to 6 during lunch time every second week on a Friday. Items include gluten free and sugar free/reduced items. There are extra health processes in place during COVID restrictions. Big thank you to Elva MacDonagh for co ordinating this for the children.
Padbury Cares is a group of school group volunteers (parents and staff) who provide assistance to families in our school community during a time of need (either short or long term) due to illness, bereavement, family crisis, birth of a newborn or any type of change. If you are going through a time of need or if you know of a family that requires assistance please make contact. The information that is provided to Padbury Cares remains confidential.
We also look for volunteers to be part of this valuable and rewarding program so if you can offer assistance in any way we would love to hear from you. Some examples of help that we offer are providing a simple family meal that is delivered to the school office for collection; transporting of children to and from school; ironing, cleaning, shopping, baking, gardening, dog walking etc. Generally, we would ask you to help once a semester. Please note once you register your name will stay on our database and you will not need to re-register with each new school year. Huge thanks to Padbury Cares coordinator Ruth Tan (0412 358 746) who is so pastoral in her approach with our families. Please contact her, the front office (9404 4000), your class teacher or one of the Leadership Team, should you need some assistance or wish to volunteer. More details can be found on our school website - https://www.padcath.wa.edu.au/padbury-cares.
A reminder that every member of the PCPS community must behave in the manner described in our Code of Conduct - https://www.padcath.wa.edu.au/_files/ugd/8592a2_cad84a6a559846588999dd460b13ed33.pdf
Our Code is like the 40km/h speed limit outside our school in the mornings and afternoons. It defines behaviours that keep our students safe, at school and elsewhere. Children surrounded by adult and peer behaviours described in the Code are more likely to recognise and choose healthy relationships for themselves.
We each keep our students safe by following our Code of Conduct, and encouraging and reminding each other to do so. For parents, compliance is a condition of your entry to school premises.

COVID
A few COVID reminders -
- If your child is unwell, please keep them home. If children are exhibiting any of the COVID symptoms at school parents will be called to collect them immediately. In both instances we encourage parents to take their child for a PCR test, providing a negative result to the school office via email before their return. Alternatively you can complete a declaration, on our website under Community/COVID, that your child is not COVID positive before returning - https://www.padcath.wa.edu.au/covid-declaration
- Mask wearing for parents in the outdoors on a school site where 1.5m physical distancing cannot be maintained. Please leave your mask on when you are speaking to others if you are not 1.5m distancing outdoors.
- Parents cannot not enter classrooms.
- Parents permitted on the school site for drop-off and pick-up in outdoor settings only
- Gatherings of parents on school sites is to be avoided including gathering in close proximity on the verandas and elsewhere in the mornings/afternoons.
- Year 1-6 parents are encouraged to use the kiss and ride in the morning/afternoon.
- We ask parents to drop students off between 8.30am - 8.45am so that children can go straight to their classrooms to avoid waiting in the school grounds.
- Farewell your child on the veranda.
- Only attend the school office in the event of significant pastoral/welfare issue related to your child.
- Wherever possible interactions between staff and parents should take place over the phone or online.
- Parent-teacher meetings are restricted to online or telephone.
I would like to thank all parents for your continued support and understanding as we navigate our way through the High Case Load restrictions. We may need to do things a little differently at this point in time however we are doing our very best to ensure that most events and activities can still continue in a safe manner and that the children remain our priority.
Enjoy the gorgeous weather with your family on the weekend.

EXTENSION
Extension 2022
I am delighted to be taking on the Extension Teacher role for 2022 while Mrs Remigio is on maternity leave. Having been in a similar role for the past 12 years I know what an exciting programme this is and am looking forward to working with students here at Padbury CPS. I aim to identify and meet the student’s needs by presenting them with engaging and challenging classroom instruction, inquiry-based learning, enrichment units of work and opportunities for growth to foster the development of critical thinkers who learn to ask the “big questions”.
I spent time with Mrs Remigio at the end of last year and completed a thorough handover. Areas of engagement this year will include the Multiple Intelligences – Critical Thinking unit; Robotics; Philosophy; Academic All Stars; Passion Projects; STEM/Engineering Design; Maths Investigations; Learning Quests; Six Thinking Hats and the Synergy Solar Car Challenge.
These units will encompass the general skills and behaviours along with curriculum content in various learning areas that will assist students to live and work successfully in the twenty- first century. Skills such as the ability to pose big questions; identify information and ideas; organise and process information; connect ideas; seek solutions and alternatives; elaboration; set goals; develop work habits; risk taking; flexibility; imagination; collaboration and self-reflection, are among some of the outcomes that we will work towards.
This week we have commenced testing students with the assistance of testing analyst, Tanya Atherton. The results of these tests will be collated by Tanya and will be used to select the students for the program. Testing and analysis will be completed by the end of week three and the selection of students and program introduction will take place in week four.
I am looking forward meeting both students and parents in the programme and to a productive year with lots of new learning for us all.

UNIFORM SHOP
Stock Delays
Our school bags have arrived this week and will be distributed directly to students in class!
Unfortunately the library bags the uniform shop had ordered for delivery in Nov 2021 have not yet arrived. In the meantime students without a school library/homework bag are asked to use a substitute bag that will protect library books and homework. Anything suitable such as a shopping bag, tote bag etc will be ok to use in the interim. Once the bags have arrived, we will be sure to send them directly to the students in class for those who have ordered through Flexischools.
Apologies for any inconvenience. Any questions please feel free to ask me.

A message from Janelle Child Manager Children’s Crossings Unit
Given the current circumstances with Covid-19, vaccinations and the demographics of our Traffic Wardens there has not been as much interest in becoming a Traffic Warden this year. This being the case, we are left with quite a few crossings being unattended.
We are in urgent need for Traffic Wardens. If any Parents/Grandparents are interested in becoming a Traffic Warden contact the Children’s Crossings Unit direct on 6274 8731. An application pack can be sent. If they are successful in applying for the position and pass their training, they can be placed at your crossing, if it is one of our unmanned crossings only. It is also a paid position which does not affect a pension too much if employment is taken up. It would be highly recommended that any potential candidate on a pension contact Centrelink to have a chat. The current pay rate is around $25.58 per hour - two hours per day/five days per week.
To become a Traffic Warden, we require the applicant have access to email, a full driver’s license with access to a vehicle and be able to work the full 10 shifts per week - one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon. Any applicant signed up in this manner, who is a part of the school community, must reside within a 10km radius of their crossing/school.
Once the application has been submitted, it will commence the application process which involves a background check through WA Police Force Personal Security Vetting Unit. If they are supported they will be sent a medical assessment to take to their doctor which will need to be paid for by the applicant and reimbursed by the Children’s Crossings Unit - up to $70.00. Once they have passed the medical assessment they will be invited to attend State Traffic Operations in Midland for a training day which will last for about 4 – 5 hours.
Our unit is endeavoring to hire more wardens urgently, but would be very appreciative of any assistance from the schools we serve.
