Storybook Character Day!
We will kick off our Enchanted Book Fair by inviting all students and teachers to dress up as their favorite storybook character on Friday November 30th! We love seeing all those adorable, creative costumes that help make storybooks come to life. This is for fun and completely optional but all costumes must be a character from a book and school appropriate (no scary costumes please). Students are encouraged to bring the book to share with their class. Help our school and book fair become enchanted!
October Review
Storybook Pumpkin Patch Success!
We received over 100 storybook pumpkins for our library pumpkin patch. They were colorful, creative, and helped us decorate our library and promote great books at the same time. Thanks to all of the students and families who participated. We especially loved all the artificial pumpkins this year! They are light weight, easy to decorate, and did not rot in the library! Thanks for helping us get into the fall spirit Encino Park! You can view the pumpkins on the Encino Park Library Facebook page (see contact information) or the Encino Park Elementary Facebook page. Thanks for your participation!
Pumpkin Catapult Challenge
Students came to Makerspace for a special October STEAM challenge. They divided into teams and using only Popsicle sticks, rubber bands, and plastic spoons, students created catapults that flew candy pumpkins across the Makerspace area. Students had to measure how far their pumpkins would launch, but even more importantly students had to work together as a team!
Haunted House Lego Challenge
Students built the most creative Haunted Houses in our special Makerspace Lego Challenge. Students worked together in teams to design and build like engineers and use their imaginations like kids!
4th grade Native Texan Research
Our 4th graders were able to get hands on experience from a unique artifact kit borrowed from The Institute of Texan Cultures. The kit contained tools, clothing, and materials made from bison and used by Native Texas people. We compared these with the modern day equivalent to help show how much has changed over time.
