Graduation Letter
8th grade students will be bringing home a letter early this week that needs a parent/guardian signature. It goes over the behavior and grade expectations for all of the end of year activities and the graduation ceremony. This letter is due by Friday, December 13, to your student’s science teacher. (Graduation is on Friday, June 5, 2020 at 6 pm on the Kennedy field). The letter is attached below for your convenience.
Administrators will be meeting with students this week and next week who are below or close to the cumulative 2.0 gpa requirement to walk the stage. We will setup regular check-ins and ways to make sure they have extra support. These students will have an extra letter that needs a signature so that families know these students need to step up their efforts in second and third trimester.
Winter Concert
Join us this Thursday night, December 5, for our annual Winter Concert. We have over 250 students, one-third of our school, taking part in this event! There will be food, drinks, and raffle tickets for sale. The blacktop will be open for parking starting at 6 pm.
Principal's Coffee
Library
We were hoping our new librarian would start this Monday, but HR still doesn’t know who it will be yet, so as soon as we find out we will let you know. Once this new person starts, the library will be open at brunch and lunch each day for the students to enjoy. (The library has not been open at brunch, so this will be a new change for students).
Congratulations again to our newly retired librarian Jan McCormick. Here is a short piece about Jan’s involvement in the Redwood City School District over the years:
Jan’s first job in the Redwood City School District was in 1998 with the transportation department. She was a school bus driver as well as a state of California certified school bus instructor. She went into the library system in 2006 at Hoover Elementary school as a full-time employee. A few years later she was part time at Hoover and Kennedy. About 6 years ago she became the fulltime librarian at Kennedy.
After 21 years Jan decided it was time to retire. She has a husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren that she will now be able to spend more time with. Both her and her husband are involved with The American Legion and do volunteer projects for the veterans. One project that stands out is Christmas morning they go to the veterans hospital and sing as well and bring gifts.
Jan is also a Shrine Lady who has given many hours to projects that benefit the Shrine Hospital in Sacramento, California. This coming year she will be the leader for their court, which means she will be spending many hours visiting the hospital and promoting the wonderful things that the Shrine ladies and men do for the Shriner Hospital. She shared that it is amazing what the doctors have done for many children at no cost to the families.
