Ms. J. Smith's Classroom Happenings!

Dear Parents/Guardians of my Communication Arts I and Communication Arts II students:

Welcome. In Communication Arts I and Communication Arts II this year; we will be focusing on vocabulary acquisition, reading literary/informational texts, and writing narratives/informative/ explanatory texts. The students will develop their critical reading and thinking skills throughout the year. The students will also determine and analyze themes/character motivations over the course of a text, cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text, and conduct research projects.

The school year is off to a great start. In Communication Arts I, we are writing “I am Poems”. In Communication Arts II, we are writing autobiographical narratives. Students in both classes will have a weekly vocabulary assessment. Note: The words will be posted on our class webpage after the students complete their pretest. Please feel free to help your student prepare for their quiz. Click on the 21st Century Vocabulary link on the left hand side of the page. Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns. I am looking forward to working with you as well as with your student this year.

Lunch at Liberty Academy!

It's been wonderful having our own "cafeteria" at Liberty Academy this year! Some students still choose to bring lunch from home which works too! Please note that students currently do NOT have access to a refrigerator or a microwave. So please pack lunches with this in mind!

NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY!

Due to the Labor Day holiday, Liberty Public Schools will be closed Monday, September 5. We will resume classes on Tuesday, September 6. Have a great, upcoming long weekend!
