PCMS WEEKLY UPDATE
September 18, 2020
Good Afternoon PCMS Families,
I love how the students seem to have our new/different/COVID routines down, and the days are going smoothly. (I still don't like not being able to see their smiles, but their eyes are a giveaway!) I rarely have to say "put your mask on" - but I do have to remind them to tuck in their nose now and then! This week's CharacterDare was about creating a To Be list where they listed 2-3 traits that they want to be and commit to those traits by developing a plan of action for becoming those traits. Ask them about their To Be list - there was some good stuff on them!
We continue to be off to a wonderful start - hopefully your child says the same thing! Be safe, and enjoy the beautiful fall-like weekend! GO PIRATES!!
PCMS Doors Open at 7:20am
Just a reminder that our school's doors will not be unlocked to allow students to enter until 7:20am each morning. In the past, students were allowed to enter the exterior doors prior to this time and wait in the entryway. This year, due to COVID and the large number of students typically confined in this area, we're delaying our student entry into the school so that they can go directly to their classroom. Students will be able to enter the school at 7:20am each morning.
Parent IgNIGHT: Parent Tips for Navigating Remote Learning, October 6, 6:30pm via Google Meet
Platte County School District's Parent IgNIGHT series of informative parent sessions is designed to include, inform, involve, and ignite parents.
As we navigate new ways of teaching and learning this school year, the Platte County R-3 School district invites all families engaging in full remote or hybrid schedules to join District staff in a discussion on ways to best support learners through these venues. We will address processes for teaching and learning, how to navigate the learning management system, and tips for supporting your student to stay engaged and connected to staff and peers through a virtual platform. Join us via Google Meet on Tuesday, October 6, 6:30pm.
Waiver Allows Free Meals for All Students
All students, whether in-person or remote, will be eligible for a free breakfast and free lunch each school day. Remote students and off-campus in-person learners can place orders for curbside pickup meals, which will include a lunch and a breakfast. Curbside pickup orders should be placed by 8am the day of pick up. Click here for further details and here to view our school menus/place orders.
6th Grade Band Parent Meeting (If not ordering rental online)
This meeting, which will take place in the PCMS Gym on Tues, Sept 22, is an option if you do not have the means to complete the online rental. However, we are strongly encouraging parents to take advantage of the online ordering option if they choose to purchase through Meyer Music.
Attendance at this event will be limited and times will be assigned to allow for social distancing:
6th-Grade Band Students Last Name A-K ~ 5:30-6:15pm
6th-Grade Band Students Last Name L-Z ~ 6:30-7:15pm
Homecoming 2020: Sept. 28-Oct. 2
Platte County's Homecoming festivities run Sept. 28 through Oct. 2, and although some things may look different this year, some things will remain the same. This year's theme is "Oz: There's No Place Like Home."
Homecoming Spirit Week: Homecoming spirit week will continue as usual this year. Dress up days will be encouraged throughout the District, and PCHS students will compete in their grade-level hallway decorations. Homecoming spirit days are listed below, and PCHS will communicate about hallway decorations and pep assemblies.
- Monday: Poppies Will Put Them to Sleep - Wear your pajamas
- Tuesday: Time Twister Tuesday - "Witch" decade will you choose?
- Wednesday: Back in Kansas - Hike up your britches & grab your flannels. It's country day!
- Thursday: Lions & Tigers & Bears, OH MY! Wear animal print or something with an animal.
- Friday: There's No Place Like Homecoming - Wear black and orange
Homecoming Parade: In lieu of the annual Homecoming parade that typically runs on Fourth Street in Platte City, PCR-3 will host a “reverse parade” through the PCR-3 north campus, on Friday, October 2 from 3-4pm. Students will be dismissed three hours early on October 2. If your group (student group or community group) normally participate in our parade, or you would like to participate this year, please consider making a Homecoming Banner to post in our reverse parade! We’ll line the parade route with these banners to show off our Homecoming community spirit and parade goers will finish the parade waving to our PCHS Homecoming court. See attached parade route for details. Banner entries will be due to the District Education Center by Wednesday, September 30. If you have any questions, please contact Kyle Perkins or Gena Puckett.
Homecoming Football Game: The Pirates will take on the Ruskin Eagles at 7pm on Friday, October 2, at Pirate Stadium. While spectators will continue to be limited, PCHS seniors will be allowed entry to this game. PCHS Got Character Seniors will be recognized during pregame, and the Homecoming Queen will be crowned at halftime. Pirate fans can tune in via NHFS to watch the game from home.
Middle School Athletic Events
Our middle school sports were off to a good start this week. It was so great seeing our students out there doing what they love to do! We want to take a minute to thank you all for understanding and bearing with our current policy of allowing only two spectators per participant. We know these are challenging times for everyone, and we genuinely appreciate everyone's respect for our students and families' safety! #gopirates
