ALT ALERT!
Del Amigo & Venture Alternative Education School
Principal's Message
2/13/23
Hello Alt Ed Community!
I wanted to begin by recognizing the amazing Venture students who were honored last Friday for their excellent grades earned in the first semester. It was wonderful celebrating with them, their families and staff!
From Feb.27-March 1st Venture (high school only) will be undergoing our WASC (Western Association of Schools & Colleges) accreditation. Every high school that awards diplomas must go through this process. This year the WASC team will be conducting a virtual visit. A key component of the visit is meeting with students, parents and staff. The Parent focus group will be held virtually on Tuesday, February 28th from 1:30- 2:15 . Please complete THIS FORM by Friday February 17th if you’d like to participate. We really need parent participation. I will send out the zoom link once you complete the form.
Venture High school students- Students are also needed for a focus group that is scheduled for Tuesday, February 28th from 10:30-11:30 via zoom. Teachers have recommended various students and I will be reaching out soon. You can also let your Advisory teacher know if you are interested.
Again, we appreciate all of your support with this process.
Lynsie Castellano

Dear SRVUSD sophomores and parents/caregivers of sophomore students,
The San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD) soon will be accepting applications for the first cohort of the SRVUSD/Las Positas Welding Job Training program. The SRVUSD/LPC Welding Job Training program is a unique dual enrollment program offered in partnership with Las Positas College in Livermore. Through this program, high school juniors and seniors enroll in a shortened high school schedule so that they may attend designated college courses during their regular school day or in the evening. Students will engage in learning alongside college students while maintaining their high school experience.
SRVUSD/LPC Welding program students participate during their 11th and 12th grade years and may earn a general welding certificate upon completion of the program. They take four courses at their home school and two or more courses per semester at LPC. Additionally, students will attend a weekly support course. Students have the opportunity to complete requirements for a general welding certificate by the time they graduate from high school. Free tuition expenses are provided but students are required to provide their own transportation.
We encourage a wide variety of students to apply to the SRVUSD/LPC Welding program. Students who are hard-working, able to persevere through challenging situations, and bring a diverse set of experiences and perspectives to the program would be an especially good fit.
The SRVUSD/LPC Welding application materials can be found here on Thursday, February 16, 2023. Students interested in applying to the program should complete the online application (student and parent/guardian parts) no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2023. The teacher recommendation form is separate from the student application. Once the application has been submitted, the teachers listed on the application will be contacted to provide their letters of recommendation for the candidate.
If you or your student would like to learn more information about the program, we will be offering the following remote informational session:

Financial aid offers can be THE determining factor for your students, but jargon, inconsistent formatting, and unclear cost information make award letters difficult to understand. This free webinar shows you how to review financial aid offers with students and families so they can compare the full costs of attending multiple colleges to make informed financial decisions about where to go to college and how to pay for it.
You’ll be able to:
- Use uAspire's College Cost Calculator to accurately compare college costs
- Explain financial aid jargon in student-friendly terms
- Identify aid offer best practices and common ways they can be confusing
uAspire College Cost Calculator
Use and share this online tool with students and families to decipher and compare financial aid offers. They can easily figure out how much they'll have to pay, including estimates for indirect expenses and loan repayment, and compare costs between colleges easily.
Find it here: uaspire.org/calculator
And...Financial Aid Events for students and families
uAspire also hosts free virtual events to walk students and families through the financial aid process and applications, provide resources and guidance, and answer questions. Up next:

You may have seen ACCESS as a new period on the Venture schedule. This class has been added if students struggled in a course at Venture in the fall, OR if students transferred in with low grades. This is a more targeted way we can offer support and connect with students. Most support is scheduled on Friday since there are no high school classes on Fridays, and only Art/PE for middle school. As we shared during the orientation when students enrolled, in person support could be a requirement for independent study. If a student has been added, they need to come to the scheduled time for support.
Please check the template below and the schedule for more information.
If you have questions, feel free to schedule a meeting with Ms. Kruse through THIS link.

NEW CALIFORNIA HIGH SCHOOL REQUIREMENT FOR SENIORS!
What: Starting in the 2022-23 academic school year, high schools and school districts (Local Educational Agencies) will need to ensure that all 12th graders in the state of California complete a FAFSA or CA Dream Act Application, unless the student has formally submitted an opt-out waiver. The goal of “All In for FAFSA/CA Dream Act” is to expand access to financial aid to thousands of students who may have otherwise not been aware of these opportunities. California Assembly Bill 132
Who: All seniors must complete the FAFSA or Dream Act Application. Check here to learn which application applies to you. Students of all income levels applying to all types of post-secondary programs need to apply. Many colleges require the FAFSA or Dream Act Application for merit based scholarships or even to be able to participate in different programs at the colleges. FAFSA or the Dream Act Application is not only for students who intend to apply for need-based scholarships or grants.
How: Go to the online FAFSA Application or CA Dream Act Application.
*To be prepared for your online application, complete this FAFSA on the web worksheet or CA Dream Act worksheet
What will I need to fill out the Dream Act Application or FAFSA®?
Your Social Security Number (if you have one)
Your Alien Registration number (if you are not a U.S. citizen)
Your federal income tax returns, W-2s, and other records of money earned. (Note: You may be able to transfer your federal tax return information into your FAFSA® form using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.)
Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)
Records of untaxed income (if applicable)
An FSA ID (for FAFSA) so you can electronically sign the FAFSA® form

Leadership San Ramon Valley Education Days
DEL AMIGO and VENTURE High School Only: As part of Leadership San Ramon Valley's Education Day, we are looking for a student panel to speak to community members about their current experience as a High School Student in our District on March 2, 2023. We are asking for at least 1, and at most 2 students from each High School. It is important to us that we have a diverse panel of experiences, including not only demographically, but also in terms of student achievement and experience. We would really love representation for both our schools. If you are interested in participating please contact dbarnes@srvusd.net to sign up.
