Staffing News
Alana Tissingh
We wish Alana the best of luck as she begins her Maternity Leave. Yesterday staff and students had the chance to farewell ‘Miss T’ by putting on a special morning tea. Alana’s contribution to Stanley Ave is to be acknowledged and we look forward to welcoming her back in some capacity in the future. Arohanui, Alana!
Adreena Bishop
I would like to take this opportunity to officially welcome Adreena Bishop ‘Whaea Adreena’ to Stanley Avenue School. Adreena took over in Week 6 from Alana Tissingh, and had the unfamiliar task of starting her teaching at Stanley Ave in a Lockdown. Adreena has made a strong start and I know the school community will support Adreena in her role. Nau mai haere mai, Adreena!
Board of Trustees News
We are excited to announce that the Stanley Avenue Board of Trustees has made the decision to co-opt Mr Kelvin Forsman until the next election, to assist the board in building governance capacity for successful succession planning. Kelvin has a daughter, Victoria, who is in the Tui Team and has been a strong supporter of Stanley Avenue over the years. Kelvin owns and operates the local Adventure Te Aroha business and is the Chairperson of the Te Aroha Business Association. We look forward to utilising Kelvin’s expertise moving forward!
Property Update
It is exciting to announce that the Room 3 and 4 classroom refurbishment will commence during the first week of the school holidays (4th October). S.J. McCarthy Contractors have won this job. This project involves refurbishing the two classroom spaces, upgrading the toilets and creating a breakout space. Handover back to the school will be on 22nd November. Once the Room 3 and 4 project is complete we will start on the Room 9 and 10 classroom refurbishment. This will involve refurbishing the two classroom spaces, creating a breakout space next to Room 9 and a wet area in the Room 10 foyer, as well as upgrading the existing toilets. This project is due to be completed by the start of the 2022 school year.
- Additionally, a new deck area will be created starting at Room 1 and extending all the way to Room 4. The existing roof line will be extended out.
- A new deck area will also be created coming off Room 9 and 10 with the roof line extended also.
- Three unisex toilets will be added behind Room 10, for Middle School/ Senior School student use.
The senior management team are currently making plans now as to where the affected classrooms will work around the school. The good news is that we anticipate both projects to be completed by the start of the 2022 school year.
Lockdown Learning Survey
Next week we will be sending out a survey using Google Forms to get feedback around our Distance Learning programme during our latest Alert level 3 & 4 lockdown. This will arrive as an email and you just need to click the link to fill it out.
It is always great to reflect on things and look at what we have achieved and what we would like to adjust to achieve even more next time. We would really appreciate you taking a few minutes to fill it out and give us your feedback. Thank you for your ongoing support in our learning journey as a school community.

Self Defence at Stanley Avenue School
What an amazing week it has been with a good number of our girls in Ruru and Tui having a great opportunity to work with Mel Goodin from the 'Women's Self Defence Network - Wāhine Toa' on Self Defence and confident speaking and thinking.
The overall objective was for the girls to uplift each other and empower themselves to live safely. The girls were really motivated and showed great enthusiasm in their learning. It was amazing how much confidence these sessions gave our girls. Thanks Mel!
Its a Girl!!!
Little Elaina arrived safely on 12th July. We cant wait to meet her and maybe have a little cuddle.
