Volume 3 - Back to School - August 2018
Message from Dr. Trenton Hansen
Hello Jurupa Unified and welcome back!
I hope that everyone enjoyed the summer and is ready to have an amazing 2018-2019 school year. I would like to thank our Maintenance and Operations team for their service over the summer, working countless hours to have projects completed before teachers and staff returned to their sites. During break, parking lots and/or playgrounds were paved, sealed and striped at Camino Real, Granite Hill, Ina Arbuckle, Mission Middle, Rustic Lane and Jurupa Valley High School. Painting upgrades were completed at Granite Hill, Pacific Avenue Academy of Music, Peralta, Rustic Lane, Mission Middle, Mira Loma Middle, Jurupa Valley High School and the Learning Center. Roofing replacements and upgrades were made at Rustic Lane, Troth Street, West Riverside, and Rubidoux High School. Carpet and vinyl flooring were replaced at Granite Hill, Ina Arbuckle, Mission Bell, Pacific Avenue Academy of Music, Rustic Lane, Stone Avenue, Troth Street, Mission Middle, Jurupa Valley High School, Patriot High School, and the MOT complex. Playfields and playgrounds received upgrades and/or new sod at Pedley, Stone Avenue, Sunnyslope, and Mission Middle School. The HVAC team replaced systems at Mira Loma Middle, Jurupa Valley High School, Patriot High School, and Rubidoux High School. Panic hardware was installed at Granite Hill, Indian Hills, Pedley, Peralta, Stone Avenue, Troth Street, and Mira Loma Middle School to increase the safety and security for students and staff.
As many of you know, construction is complete at Del Sol Academy and the new TK-8 STEAM academy is open for business with over 950 students enrolled. Permanent classroom renovations are finished at Ina Arbuckle and Mission Bell Elementary schools and they are in the second phase of construction which includes new Library/Media Centers and a new MPR. Both schools remain on track with the project schedule and are due for completion by the end of the calendar year. In addition to the classroom renovations, both schools have new entryways that direct visitors to a single point of entry into the main office for the safety and security of students and staff. Phase 2 construction at the Jurupa Valley High School Innovation Center is complete and new furniture and equipment are being planned for those spaces. Rubidoux High School is in the final stage of exterior, classroom, and office renovations. The project is on schedule and due for completion by December of this year.
Although the summer was extremely busy for the Planning and Development Department and our M&O Division, we would not have been able to complete the numerous projects without the support from many district departments and site staff working patiently and collaboratively together. I am truly grateful for the efforts made by our staff and hope that you take some time to thank them for their hard work and commitment to our students and their learning environments. Wishing you all a great 2018-2019 school year.
Best,
Dr. Hansen and Staff

Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning
Mira Loma MS - Room L1A
After several service follow-ups, this unit required replacement. The impact on the class was minimized with communication and support from the school site. Students were moved to an adjacent room for instruction time during this process. The HVAC unit was delivered, lifted, set onto existing roof base, connected and was up and running all within one day. Additionally, after the unit was installed technicians checked for air flow to main room and split rooms. The extra attention to detail helped balance air to small office and production room.
Jurupa Valley HS - Food Services Kitchen
In order to not disrupt the food service operations during summer school, this project was scheduled between summer school and the start of 18/19 school year. The large area called for the collaboration of multiple technicians in order to complete the work promptly, and allow kitchen staff time to prepare for the new year. Organization and teamwork between the HVAC staff led to a successful completion. During this project, technicians changed out original supply air grills, original return air grills, re‐ducted areas due for a change out, and cleaned out commercially sized exhaust fan hoods.
Patriot HS - Gym (Unit 1 of 3)
Similar to many other areas of our educational organization, some tasks require help from others. For this project, the class B driver from grounds delivered the lift. Flexibility and support from the rest of the maintenance team and supervisors is a big part of the reason we are able to maintain a high level of service. As a team, we strive to complete every HVAC call as fast and safely as possible. When the compressor for this unit was delivered, the next day grounds had the lift ready at PHS. The quick response allowed HVAC techs to start replacement in order to fix the unit.
Rubidoux HS - Walk-in refrigeration unit
The refrigeration system for the food services box was replaced. The previous unit was no longer operating and was not cost effective to attempt to service. The split system replacement required a new outdoor condensing unit, indoor head unit, condensate lines, refrigerant lines, electrical service, on top of calibration for the cooling settings after set up. The diverse skills and knowledge technicians have about systems and installs came through during this install and work upgrade. Each had their task allowing them to complete install faster.
Upgraded LED Lighting
Panic Hardware
Panic Hardware was installed on the inside of gates at the sites listed below. This hardware allows sites to keep doors locked from the outside at all times, preventing unauthorized access to the facility, while still allowing for an easy emergency exit out of the gate.
